P0345 Cam Position Sensor Bank 2 Issues, Can't resolve
I'm at a loss on where to go next, if anyone can throw in any suggestions I would really appreciate it. The 2003 z I bought came with a P0345 cel code, camshaft position sensor bank 2. I started with first replacing the sensor, while also replacing the bank 1 sensor and crank position sensor, with oem hitachi, that didn't help. So I checked the power and ground to the connector, checked continuity through the wires to the ecu, couldn't find any issues. I just went ahead and decided to replace the timing chains, found the dowel pin for the camshaft and the sprocket was all mangled up so I figured that was the issue, replaced those pieces but the car is still having the same issue. Won't rev up past 3k rpms, and the cel, slip, vdc lights all come on quickly after trying to drive. Tried throttle position re learn multiple time. Don't know what to do next and I dont wanna give up!
have you disconnected the battery yet since doing the sensors to do a reset? you may be way beyond this but just starting with the basics.
I had the same error code last year at the track and had to buy the proper diagnostic tool from Z1 for this car because generic scanners don't decode the Nissan errors deeper in the system. recommend you get one if you don't already have one. If you do, then it could be the wiring. The plastic connectors that attach to the sensors can become heat damaged and brittle due to proximity to the engine block.
Thanks for the reply, yeah the battery was disconnected while doing the timing chains, maybe I can try to disconnect the battery again for a bit to see if It'll do anything, I do have just a very basic scanner from Autozone so maybe I can try to look into getting that scanner, if not maybe i'll take a deeper dive into the wiring. Any info on that scanner?
Let us know what you find with a more advanced scanner. Fingers crossed something didn't go wrong with the timing chain replacement.
Where did you source the replacement Cam Position Sensor?
If you know more about the history of this car, please share.
The dowel pin for the cam sprocket being mangled is strange. I'm wondering if it's possible that the cam sensor is not getting a good signal from the pickup. When you had the engine apart, did it look like someone had been there before?
Cheers!

Going to check today, will update with results. I sourced the sensors from worldpac, oem Hitachi sensors, no clue the history of this car, just picked it up knowing it had these codes, the wiring around that area has electrical tape on it, along with several other wires on the harness so it's possible there could be some wiring gremlins. Very strange to see that I agree, thought that was the main problem. I had the idea someone had been in there before due to the way the gasket maker material looked, it was orange, I have no idea if thats oem or not.
Just scanned live data of my car, found out the intake valve timing values are way off from what they should be according to the manual, oh boy... I also had replaced the intake camshaft for bank 2 as that was the damaged one needing replacement, anyhow i've been hearing a knocking noise coming from the engine that wasn't there before, did some digging into the noise and it sounds like it's coming from right around the same area as the bank 2 intake camshaft, I followed all proper torquing procedures, I got the camshaft from a spare vq35de I have laying around, idk how I could've messed it up. I'll attach some photos of my data read.
Yikes, I hope not. I'm gonna be taking it apart to see what I find, I was very sure I did the timing correctly, but I'm believed now that possibly the chain jumped teeth on initial startup before the tensioners kicked in. Thanks for the help.
You did pull the pins on the tensioners and then turned it over 360 degrees by hand before putting it back together, right? Get yourself a manual. One of the last steps is to turn it over by hand to set the tensioners.
