Need advice on sound system upgrade.
I just bought an '06 Z base model so I'm definetly looking to upgrade the system. After searching & browsing this forum for a few days I think I know what I want to do.
Front Speakers - Infinity Kappas 63.7i
Rear Speakers - Infinity Reference series (maybe 6012i)
Subwoofer - Infinity Basslink II (mounted behind drivers seat)
I can currently get a Basslink & the rear infinity reference speakers for $280 but I'm thinking the Basslink II may be a better choice since I can also amp my speakers off of it. I've read on this forum that mounting the woofer in the back facing the glass gets the best sound quality..however, I'd like to save the little cargo space the Z has and mount it out of sight - sacrificing some of the sound quality.
I'll be keeping the stock headunit until I save up enough to get one of those touchscreen joints. I have to start researching headunits but hopefully somewhere here and recommend me a good one.

I am trying to upgrade my sound system too. I wonder how do you mount your Infinity Basslink II in the stock position? do you need to build any box for it? or just put in there without any modification?
the bass link is its own enclosure, soy ou just stick it somehwere, not sure if hte stock location is the best place for it though..
other htan that, infinity kappas arent my favorite speakres interms of sound quality but they will work

Oh, I got this one. *puts on psychic hat*
I am going with DLS Nobeliums.
Some day, after I sale my first born I will splurge for a set. I thought about the basslink as well, but for similiar money you can grab a decent amp and sub that will sound better and probably last longer. I have heard of a few of the basslinks going bad after a short period of usage.
Check out www.woofersetc.com for good deals on some Boston Acoustic, Focal and Image Dynamic comps.

depending on what price range:
375 and above, my favorite would like with a wide variety of DLS, morel and AVis
below that, i would say a few selected lower line DLS speakres, Elemental designs EDIs, Jl VR series comps, crystal csc and ssc classes...etc
kappas to me, though having good midbass, just dont get that great of midrange and highs...espeiclaly he piercing midrange to high transition and high freqs makes it one of my least favorite speakres

I'm pretty new to customizing cars...I've spent many years roadracing sportbikes and I'm just now starting to get into cars which is why I bought a Z. I'm trying tol earn quickly but it does get frustrating.
Today I stopped by a local audio shop just to see what they had and I ended up impulse buying a set of Boston S60 component speakers. Not only are these not really the speakers I want but I got ripped off on 'em big time so now I'm
and I'll be headed back there first thing in the morning to get my money back.
I bought a basslink & infinity reference speakers for $280 at a different store but I'm taking the basslink back tomorrow as well.
I've decided to let Circuity City install the following tomorrow:
Kicker TS10L52 (right behind driver and passenger seat facing either way that sounds best)
Polk Audio db6500 (front speakers)
Infinity Reference 6012i (rear speakers)
I'm still undecided on which amp to get.
I'll be keeping the stock HU for now but eventually I'll get a DVD/CD in dash unit hooked up to a monitor inside the compartment above the HU.
I have an apt at 11am tomorrow at Circuit City for this install...I'll probably be going through with it unless the good people of my350Z.com tell me I'm making a terrible mistake and why.

You are making a terrible mistake in letting Circuit do the install .... other than that, you are doing it right.
I say this b/c CC usually cheaps out on the installation, breaks lil' clips and hides mistakes (they also usually have new installers that are quite unfamiliar with most cars and trypically make mistakes). This isn't to say that they cannot do it, or can't do it right ... it is just a warning that they might not do the best job. Six months from now, when you got some random rattle or a loose ground .. you'll likely trace it back to a previously unmentioned/unnoticed installer error.

^-- thanks for the warning..the main reason why I'm letting CC do the install is because the local audio shop pissed me off today when they ripped me off. The CC here has done installs in Z's a G35's before so maybe they know what they're doing
I really don't have many options for installation...I'm sure BestBuy is just as risky.
