Shrill ear piercing speakers.
Receiver: Kenwood Excelon X993
Amp: Alpine MRP-F250
Speakers: Alpine SPS-600C components
For the past year, I have been suffering with the speakers/tweeters being too high pitched. Too much treble. Shrill. Tinny.
After I bought the car, I replaced the factory non-bose with polk db coaxials.
This "treble" problem started bothering me a year ago.
I was told my polks are not getting enough power. I added the amp and got the kenwood receiver. Amp gain is set to the half way NOM. Volume is around 50% as well.
Problem didn't go away.
I switched the speakers to the alpine components today...I was sure this was gonna solve it, but didn't. Completely disappointed. All my friends agree with me. Vocals are too loud. It'll give you a head ache in a few minutes!
Lowering the treble...or using my EQ to completely turn down the higher frequencies helps..but I shoudn't have to do that...this ruins a lot of songs.
I think I have some other major problem. Any ideas?

It's most likely EQ problem. I have polk components with an alpine amp and when I used to go past 40% total volume, my ears would start hurting even though it didn't seem so loud. I thought it were the highs but after experimenting with the EQ, I found that by lowing the mids a tad, it made it all better. For me, getting the EQ just right is the hardest part of setup tuning.
I literally just came from BestBuy after checking out that component set and decided against it since they do not come with a true crossover... I think that's probably the root of your problem...
Add a resistor going to your tweeters to raise the resistance.
Add a 2 ohm resistor to the + before the tweeter
Add a 4 ohm resistor parallel to the tweeter.
That should result in a -6db.

Was the factory tweeter still being used before?
Yes. Didn't disconnect them when I had the coaxial. Thought I'd get better sound stage if I left them.
Where is the location of the aftermarket tweeter now?
Same as factory. In the sail.

Also, the factory location for the tweeters tend to be a bit harsh with aftermarket tweeters from the ones I've heard. It's pretty much blaring right by your ear

I'm glad I never attempted to put my tweeters in that factory location.
Problem Solved.
Like others pointed out, the real problem is the location of the factory tweeters. I had to either move the tweeters or attenuate (lower volume) my tweeters. I did not want to go thru the trouble of moving them, so I went to radio shack and grabbed a few resistors

R1: 4 ohm 10W resistor
R2: 2 ohm 10W resistor
If you don't want to deal with this, then consider buying components with a good crossover which has adjustable tweeter levels.
