The three of you have done this before, I have not, that is why I have these questions. I'm not trying to annoy anybody. I'm sorry if my questions come off as pestering. You have to understand, though, you did something that not very many people on this forum have done, so you're going to be asked questions about it.

I completely understand that it's plug and play, thats why I'm doing it. Like i said previously, I removed my airbag to see what exactly I would need to do to install those steering controls and I found that the right trim piece would not be able to be removed without removing the steering wheel. So I attempted to use your advice last weekend of "work out what needs to be done" and what I worked out was that I would need to remove the steering wheel. Now, I've never removed it, thats why I was asking about anything in particular I need to know when doing it. Then there are two replies stating that I do not need to remove the steering wheel to install the controls. Hence my question on how to do that. I did not find a way to install them without removing the steering wheel, you know a way, so I asked you. It seems that it would be a more convient way to install them, so I would like to know how. But again, I apologize for the numerous questions. I'll just remove the steering wheel and line it up with the advice from joeysr20det.

Thanks for all the help, you guys.

Didn't read that novel, I'll respond to what I did read.

When I did this I had never done it. I just used what I found on forums on my own, and from reading the Service Manual available all over the web FREE. Do you have one?

Do you have the cruise control steering wheel switch? If you do look at the back of it. The protruding part is where the screw that keeps it on the wheel goes. Using the clue the wheel does not have to come off, look where that would end up. I used my middle finger on the right hand while it was on the steering wheel to the right of where the switch goes and felt behind the wheel guess what I found? A HOLE.

It is a small phillips screw fyi.

The whole thing is just like that. Use intelligence and common sense. Use the available information, get it done.

I did this without knowing it would work, I did it without knowing exactly what I would find but I worked it out and I am not a mechanic, not a genius, I just have the ability to be smarter than the inanimate object I am trying to manipulate. I bet if you try you can too!

There are two protruding parts on the steering wheel switch.

I found the screw you're talking about, the other is located where a screwdriver will not fit. Listen, I'm just going to take the wheel off.

Sorry I asked that last question that made you snap. Even though I feel that you're douchebag that needs to lighten up a little bit, I appreciate your help.

Hopefully I'll have this done soon.

P.S. Spaced this out so you didn't have to read a "novel."

Calling a person that has helped you names is classy.

Before you started in with all these questions here you sent me 10 private messages. I answered all of them.

I hope everyone else ignores you going forward. I will not be responding.

You are lazy and unwilling to do the work. You want people to hold your hand.

P.S. if you can't work this out I predict you will not be able to get the wheel off.

P.P.S. please post pictures from the hospital when you blow the airbag in your face.

Like I've said numerous times, regardless if anyone responds, thank you all for the help. I dont need anyone to hold my hand, just want to make sure I do it right the first time, and everyones answers to my many questions will be awesome during this. I dont think I'm lazy, I did a lot of research but what I couldn't figure out, I asked for help on.

Also, I know how to get the wheel off, I wont ask. The bag wont blow up in my face, at least it didn't last time. e30, even I'll admit that the name calling was childish, but I'm not ashamed of it. I know you helped me and I appreciate the help just not your attitude about it.

See you guys in cruise controlville.

Update:

Just about to install my Touring model gauge cluster to have the cruise indicator lights working. CC lights work correctly but my odometer reading is the same from the car the cluster came from (approx 30k miles less lol). Not a huge deal b/c i plan on keeping the car indefinitely but should really get it fixed.

Anyone know if the ECU retains the mileage and the dealer can correct the odometer?

Also the TCS / Slip LEDs did light up initially. I avoided removing the LEDs b/c it could possible mess up the voltages on other LEDs if they share the same circuit. I put 2-3 drops of Black Plasti-dip on each and now its completely blocked out without worrying about heat/vibration knocking something loose.

Just heard back from the nissan dealer. Service techs said the car's ecu will change the gauge odometer after a bit of driving. One tech thinks its 50 miles. So I'll install cluster and update if / when it changes.

Touring model cluster in with blackcat faces and blue / red led scheme. Notice the cruise indicator.

Just wanted to clarify: I'm terribly surprised the stealership's techs were wrong. My odometer is still reading about 30k low and i'm pursuing a way to get my cluster corrected.

Found out exactly how to get the odometer reading corrected.

Cost for me $125, $41.50 for reprogramming and $82.50 for 2 day shipping to and from recalibration provider.

The semi-local dealership's parts manager worked with me on this, he informed me that Model Electronics Inc. is the company they would purchase a replacement cluster with the correct odometer reading. I called Model Electronics and they said they can easily do my odometer reading increase, just needs VIN# and desired odometer reading (higher than currently on cluster), but HAS TO BE SENT IN BY DEALER.

I'll attach a note telling them that the cluster was replaced with a Cruise control car's and needs to have that software on it (incase they are reflashing the ROM chip). Just to make sure they don't reprogram the cluster with a base model's software, rendering the CC lights useless.

Legality of getting the reading reduced would need to be further investigated but no my problem

Gonna be doing this 2nd week of July b/c my wifes going out of town for a week and I can drive her vehicle. I'll update when it get it done!

UPDATE:

Got my cluster back from being reprogrammed, now it reads correctly!!!!

I included a note to ensure they knew the VIN# that you have to send in is a base model but the cluster from a cruise.

Didn't want them reflashing the whole chip with a base file and having my cruise lights not working.

Total cost was $113 for 2 day shipping both ways, but Model Electronics actually shipped it next day! I gave it to the dealer Friday at noon, was back to the dealer for pickup 9am the following Weds.

Just did this on my 2005 and it worked perfectly, used the cc to and from ZCON and I was very thankful to have the cruise for the 1800+ mile trip. Thanks again to all those who contributed to this write-up.

I'm glad I came across this! A big thanks to the OP & contributing posts. I'll be getting tuned in a few weeks, and I want the option to switch maps. I don't mind having no CC lights, since I don't want to deal with the trouble of getting a new cluster/adjusting mileage

I just want to make sure i'm ordering the right parts, could someone double-check this for me please? The pictures/description seem to match, but the part # doesn't correspond to the given SKU's

25300-AT300 (Product SKU doesn't match the part #)
25300-62JOE (Product SKU doesn't match the part #)

25550-CF40A

Revisiting this thread today.

So as it stands I will still need a non-base flash for the computer which can only be had though doing a tune though uprev or a similar company? The tune which I don't want at all along with the expense is the only thing stopping me from having cc on my 08 base. I also see you guys fooling around with the dash to get the cc light on. This is only a optional step right? Anyone know where to get the flash without having to buy the whole tune?

Thanks in advance and great thread guys. Would love to have cc on my base like some of you.

My tuner said he would offer a CC only flash for less. Contact your local uprev tuner to ask if they will.
I just noticed you are in Az. Contact Tim @ Xact Dyno.
