I've been autocrossing my 03 G35 sedan this summer and for the first time have run into a problem. After installing Hotchkiss adjustable sway bars and finally getting them adjusted right.(the car handled like a dream, no understeer and oversteer on demand via the throttle) The problem is that when going through a slalom I encountered a loss of power assist only during the most violent steering inputs. I also am running 245-40 Azenis st115 tires on 18 inch rims. I have replaced the P/S belt but it doesn't appear worn--not shiny or cracked. Fluid level seems OK too. Any ideas??

Do you have the cooler installed ?
You might want to change the fluid from time to time.

 

Yeah you might just have over heated fluid or heat soaking on ur steering

 

Even in the first 15 seconds of the run?

 

It's not overheating, you're just overdriving the boost. You're ahead of the pump, and either need to "deal with it" (ie. just live with it until the next straight) or slow down and let the pump catch up.

It happens to a lot of cars at autocrosses. The pumps are built big enough to handle regular driving, and autocross requires more movement in less time than they were designed for, so the pump gets behind.
