No More Z Track Days for me
Similar to zillinois post...
Hey guys,
After long consideration, I decided to no longer keep the z. It was just too expensive to track, street, and keep through winter. Im still a college student and couldnt afford a daily driver and to keep tracking. I sold my z and the only parts the owner didnt want were my safety setup like seats, rollbar, and belts. So theyre for sale in the classifieds. I'll miss it without a doubt but its time for a dedicated street car for awhile till I actually graduate college and get a job. I'm lookin at an 06 Evo to get me around, year round and hopefully a track day once a year to keep me sharp till I can get a dedicated track car. I know I didnt post often in here but I sure did read all your posts daily to keep up with the community. Thanks for all help along the way....

I went through that realization years ago when I had a twin turbo RX-7.
It's crazy expensive to have a fun & competitive track car AND have a reliable street car (RX-7 tt & reliable are an oxymoron).
After selling the car, mountain biking became my replacement. It's far cheaper and honestly, I scare myself a lot more on the trails than I do in a 3000 lbs metal cage on a nice predicatable surface. The technology is pretty cool and handling dynamics are somewhat similar to driving (braking & weight balance).
I did eventually get back to a daily driver sports car but I've always remembered my RX-7 lesson. Now, I only Solo2 my 350 and all mods are kept in check and *must* not effect driveability or reliability.
If you're a college student on a budget and are looking for a track-like thrill you should seriously look at mountain biking. It's pretty addictive and as a bonus wickedly healthy to. You will develop incredible reflexes and driving a car will actually become easier because asphalt is far more predictable and a bike will move around a LOT more than a heavy car. Several F1 drivers (JPM, Wurz, Massa) use MTbing as an effective means of cross training. I get pretty antsy if I'm not on the trails at least once a week.

i've mtn biked for a while (10+ years) and still love it but i've recently been getting my excitement from rock climbing, especially trad climbing. it's the most adrenaline i've ever had... probably equal to skydiving, but easier and cheaper to do.

Ah the RX7. A car I've always wanted, but will never own.
I'll never forget my first ride in one, that was all I needed. Nothing that pure has come out of Japan since.
If it had reliability it would be perfect.

Have fun with your new ride. You made a good choice. You can always take it up again once you graduate and can afford the upkeep. My Z went back to stock this weekend and I love it!! Its slow and brakes like an F350 stake bed truck, but it is easy to drive and looks good!
zillinois - thanks man, I guess we are lucky we tracked our Z's as many times as we did. Many members probably wont ever take the opportunity to, so Im definitely thankful I got to use it to its fullest potential. Once you get your next track car up and going, your Z days will be a distant memory. That thing can do circles around a z!
davidv - the evolution is AWD, actually a lot more rear biased than front, but yes on all seasons it will be unstoppable in the snow... or till it gets past 4"deep.

We'll see how the Diasio performs at VIR this weekend. Hopefully the showers they're getting down there today won't be significant enough to wash off all the race rubber the Rolex race put down yesterday!
