Lap times DB and track Videos
I talked with the other z driver at trackdaze who did his advanced group check rides that day. His lap times averaged around 2:30, with a 2:28 fast lap. Good to have a reference point as he seems to agree with mhoward about the potential times with the right driver skill on a stock car. I'm not discouraged by 2:36's as it was my first weekend in blue and I managed to stay unlapped by the other Z!
+1 on Tarheel, from everything I've heard I look forward to running with them.
hey reserved, you've driven me around the track!
FWIW Here's my video. I used an iPhone 3gs without a gps adapter so I did not include the overlay. Wobbly mount. Had some fun with final cut on the intro.

It was a great weekend at VIR.
Reserved did a new personal best of 2:18.1, his student a wounded warrior with a prosthetic leg driving a Nismo 6MT with his prostheses zip tied to the clutch drive a blistering 2:15.x in a all but stock 350Z.
I got lucky and did a personal best of 2:13.3 in the Stupra. Videos to come.

Had a great time at VIR this weekend. Meet a few guys on here and would like to say thank you to all their help, Reserved and Lightning Guy along with Todd, Price, Ann, April, and Paul. You all made this weekend possible.
New PR 2:15.6. More time left as i had brake issues almost all weekend. Brakes sent me off track twice at two differnt spots. The rears would lock up and wobble the car around, but I couldn't get the car slowed down. Had an off at 14 and 1. No harm done.
Heeding many peoples advice I think I'm going to track prep the car unless anyone has already done so to an HR is willing to sell

Here is the TT, the first few hundred feet out of the pits the steering wheel fell off, so i was rather glad it happened there and not a speed somewhere. but i lost my rabbit, and had no point of reference. only the third time driving this car on tires. 27 year old suspension bushings and such. This was/is going to be the donor engine/tranny for my Z.

Looks like you guys had a great time
! I wish I could have joined you, but better luck next time. Those are some awesome times. Very nice. Time to watch Lightning Guys video.
Update:
Wow, that was fast, Lightning Guy! What would you suppose a mostly stock engine with suspension mods for the Z would run at best? You were going quick on the climbing esses. What was you speed through there? My best was 105-110mph.
Cheers,
Mike

I think a 2:16 is bringing the mail for a DE motor. my personal best was a 2:13.9 in my DE but my Z is fairly extreme
Yep, just let me know and we will throw a unit in there. I will say this car and you look like it really hauls 4 - 7 and down the back straight. So have you decided to keep the Supra or pull the motor for the Z?
Michelle informed me we were keeping the Supra and buying another LSx for the Z. I think she wants the Supra for her DE Car, that way she doesn't have to driver her Mustang on track. She loves her mustang, but doesn't want to turn it into a track car (which is admitted smart, i do not feel like polishing that turd) so now I'm shopping for an LSx, prolly T45 tranny, and PCM for the Z.
Hey guys, this is an earlier run of mine on Saturday. I almost spun out on the climbing essess, but managed to save it by counter steering (thank god for getting a lot of practice at drifting events. Learning how to control understeer and oversteer). That can be seen at 3:55 on my second lap in the video.
At this point, I had my coilover set to 75% stiffness on the front and rear. I had very little grip in the rear, a small margin for error. After that, I figured out this was a bad idea. Set the rears to 25% of stiffness and fronts to 75%. She was a new car, lots of rear grip and I felt a lot more confident! I didn't do this until Sunday though for my last few runs.

Sounds like a great time was had by all, and I'm with you hydeciel... we'll catch em next time!
Just out of curiosity, do those of you with suspension upgrades find VIR to be easier or tougher to get the right vs. other tracks (i.e. summit point, road atlanta, njmp, etc.)?
Again, just curious, I'm a long ways from that project
