New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
Just saw a Facebook post that Bill Stienhoff in a Spez Z had a 100+ MPH impact at the NASA Nationals...car totaled, Bill damaged (broken ribs and bruised lung) but able to post on FB...he will be OK, but VERY SORE
We all have to remember that this sport is not without dangers...
DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THE DRIVER SAFETY GEAR/CAGE/FIRE SYSTEM/CAR EXIT PRACTICE/ETC
After seeing this, I have decided to buy a NASCAR type seat...broken ribs never heal!

Not necessarily. I went through the SCCA school, and never had a comp license test from NASA. I ran one HPDE4 event with them just to see how they operated, then started racing. You can do it your way, though, which I'd bet is the most common route.
O ok thanks. I really want to get more involved in motorsports. I've done a few open track days,VIR,Summit Point, but don't exactly where to get started with organized events like NASA,SCCA, NaRRA

Weekend at Nats in finally done! Awesome weekend! Many of the Spec Z guys had issues as you already know. The common thing seemed to be brake fade. Another guy blew his engine I think. That guy (can't remember his name) I guess works for Nissan Motorsports. He came over and gave me some stickers, Nismo hat and t-shirt.
I finished 2nd in TTB with a new best time of 1:36.3. I was 1.6 seconds faster than last year. That is faster than the TTB regional record. I was in first place all weekend long until the last session. One of the regional guys that normally beats me put down a sick time in his S2K....a 1:35.7. I am really excited to know I ran faster than the fastest Spec Z guy though. We are in different trim, but nonetheless the same car around the same car. I am also on stock shocks and 100lbs heavier than I would be in Spec Z. I will put up some pics and videos soon.
oh yea....one of you guys posted earlier about Jeremy's time being DQ'd. He came in high on the dyno...

Nothing Spec Z specific, just lots of "rubbing is racing" going on at the National level...and two upside-down Spec Zs .
NOTE: I don't know what caused either Spec Z incident...but watching the Championship races give me a good hint that there was contact...
On a different note, the average speeds were around 75-80 MPH, that is somewhat surprising! I don't think NASA-SE run on a track with that low of a average speed.
