New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
I run the Carbotech RP2 "Endurance" pad now...it last forever for the ~ same price as the XP12...but doesn't stop as hard. However it has NOT negatively impacted my lap times.
The XP12 BITES much harder...and this may cause some ABS intervention on cold tires/tracks, but the RP2 has smoother bite and even on cold tires doesn't make ABS unhappy(er)...no change to rotor or caliper seal life. (Centric Premium blanks)
Having said that, I had the dreaded "hard pedal syndrome" @ Road Atlanta T10A in the March event...I went off gracefully
, dodged the Kitty litter, brought it back on track just past 10B... all was good until i hit a pot-hole where the dirt meets the track

...KABLAMO! Bent both left side rims...tie rod ends have slop now.
Next time I will just go for the Kitty Litter and let them red flag the dayum race
Gonna replace LF wheel bearing and inner and outter tie rod ends on both sides...wheels are repairable...
Anyway...I run Carbotech RP2 and are happy with them.

I ain't no engineer kinda dude...
but I don't think pads with high initial bite stop much shorter if-any than similar quality race pads for the average club racer
on DOT tires (BFG R1)...
maybe KNS Brakes can add some engineering level comments...

I earned some Hawk Bucks last weekend, $50 for each win, but haven't used Hawk pads since a set of Hawk Blues ate my rotors many years ago. Anyone have any recent success with a newer Hawk pad?
Slightly off topic but how long are the XP12s lasting you guys who run them? I ran a set on my 370Z and absolutely loved them but they barely lasted 4 cold track days (2 road atlanta 2.5 mid-ohio). My in progress SpecZ car has XP10/XP8s on it now and those seem to last forever (and keeps costs down as a result) but it feels like a big step down in braking compared to XP12s.
I've been very happy with the DTC-70 front and rear. IMO best value pad with great performance and longevity for pads and rotors. I've used various brands, Carbotech XP, Ferodo DS 3000, and a few others but stick with the DTC. Plus the contingency is nice.
I get maybe 8-10 TT track days out of a front set. Much more than the others and haven't noticed a significant performance difference. Perhaps a little less initial bite than the others. No fading either but TT doesn't stress brakes like W2W. Rotor wise, I've never replaced due to wear, it's always heat stress cracks

We had our first competitive Spec Z race in Florida this weekend at Sebring. The ProS spec Z came in first 0.3 seconds ahead of me in the lightning race on Sunday. We hope our side by side racing the last few laps will generate some more interest in our region. Our Z's ran 2.33; the fastest SM Sunday was 2:42 and SE30 was 2:44 and the temp was nearly 90 degrees. I was 3-4 seconds off the pace Saturday until the Pros team (my competitor) helped me with setup and driving tips. Gotta love NASA racing! We finished 1-2 in the lightening run group...had a blast

In other news, did y'all realize that Alcon is a sponsor?

I forgot to add that : No they have not run this car in Spec Z yet. They have been running TTB while building the car (pre-cage) to qualify for the Nationals. But they should get 2 or 3 Spec Z races in before the Nats..
Did I mention that Joe was Smoking Fast :-)
Joe Ippolito...screaming fast TT guy

You know Team Pelle Motorsports are already registered for two Spec Z entries with the possibility of entering a third car. It would be a good chance for you to visit your "old" car. Plus the distance for us is 28 hours of hauling...
