Default new pads/rotors making noise, please help!!!

i just installed hawk hps pads in the rear with new rotors as well (rotors are OE replacement stop tech plain rotors. I bedded the pads as stated here in the forums. when i am driving, especially next to a wall, i hear a grinding sound of the pads against the rotors. Ive only had them on a day. Is this normal until ever thing breaks in, or did i do something wrong? Is there pressure built up in the lines from me spreading the calipers to get the new parts to fit? can anyone with experience with brakes help me .

Rotors of increased hardness are not oem equivalent............the combintation of soft fast wearing pads and rotors are what makes oem system quiet.

Changes in either will increase noise.

i used tons of anti-squeal brake lube stuff. it is not a squeal. its a definate rotor/pad sound. It just sounds like the pads are riding against the rotors partly engaged, on both sides, all the time. my ebrake is adjusted perfect too so its not that. i know the caliper slide pins are not seized either, i lubed them up good with high temp grease.

Oh does anyone know what slider pin on the rear goes in which slot. One of the pins has a recessed ring about 1/4 inch from the tip and the other doesnt. i didnt know if that one when on the top slider or the bottom?

Your problem is not normal. There should not be any noise when coasting without applying the brakes.

Can you lift one wheel and turn it by hand to see if there is noise and if so you'll have to take a closer look.

yes i applied to the backside of the pads as well. i will take loose the calipers tomorrow and recheck all the bolts, sliders, and clearances. when i compressed the calipers, am i supposed to have the brake fluid resevoir cap off, or is there anything special that i should do.

Yes but it's not the cause of your problem. IE. It did not cause a buildup of pressure.

oem pads produce brake dust but they don't make any noise. i'll be replacing the front pads for a second time in about 4k more miles or this summer whichever comes first.

Something is wrong. Isolate the problem. Remove the wheels. You should be able to fit a piece of paper (say a 3x5 card) between the rotor and pad. At least this way you will know which wheel is good and which is bad.

If you are pushing pistons, remove the brake fluid reservoir cap. Best of luck.

Old post but did you ever figure out what this was? On mine I took them apart, noticed that the inner pad had a touch more wear than the outer. Not near the noise maker for needing new pads. Pushed the piston in and there didn't seem to be an issue there. Put everything back together. Drove. Same, and it is a touch louder when putting my foot down on the brakes then when just driving. Just took everything back apart, lubed the caliper slides with synthetic lube, pressed the piston in, everything back together and went around the block. Same. EBC Reds and Powerslot Drilled and Slotted Rotors. Never had this issue before I got back from a long trip. Sigh.

EBC pads have a special abrasive coating on their pads to resurface the rotor - it wears off as you bed-in the brakes. Takes longer for the rears than the fronts. Did you look at EBC's bed-in instructions?

Pads have about 15k on them. Car gets driven hard almost never. Bought a new set of pads thinking it was the pads before I looked much further into this with the noise it was making, I'd say maybe an 1/8 inch of material is gone from original EBC pads, if that.

Took them apart again and replaced the caliper slides this evening since one of the heads was starting to round and I didn't feel like waiting until it needed to come off again to try to fix it.

We'll see if the new slides help. Going to let them get warm with a 15 min drive or so in a while.
