I have the Akebono brakes on the 370Z. Compared to regular 350Z brakes, pretty impressive. First couple days I had the 370Z, I was skidding to stop lights. Peddle is sensitive and brakes STOP that well.

Who has had both Akebono and Stoptech brakes and can compare them? Doubt anyone has.

^^Yeah but does the difference warrant the huge price increase. Always thought about getting those brakes and getting them powder coated.

If you are looking for a BBK that's gonna perform good on the streets and give you the looks, go with the Akebonos. But, If you are going beyond that, look for something else that performs better. IMO stoptech is the most affordable bbk with such a great performance. In fact, You can find an used F/R for about $2000.. I myself was going to get a akebono set but after reading some reviews when it comes to track time, I decided to go with stoptech instead..

GL with whatever you get!

If you pass on the Stoptech's PM me the seller info. The 370's may suit your needs. But remember they have been having issues when pushed hard in stock form. Besides the most spectacular Car and Driver failure look for the more minor but still serious pad problems they have had with track use.

I do see many posts for powder coated Akebono brake on the G or Z, they look really really nice, specially when the rotors are slotted and drilled, sick as hell.

Anyway, does g35 and 350z share the same brake system, can I use the stoptech brakes that were on the g35 or akebono from g37 to put on a Z?

What do you mean in stock form, do you referring to stock rotors, stock pads and stock brake lines?

The akebono kit is larger, and will fill out your wheels better. But a StopTech kit will provide directional 2pc rotors which are going to be lighter, and produce more airflow. There will be more pad options available for the stiffer calipers. SS lines are included w/ StopTech BBk's.

On the flip side, we also have 355mm big brake kits available too, which provide the same benefits and even more heat capacity.

By referring to the stock form, I'm talking about a problem with brake pads the 370 has had recently (Oddly I haven't hear of the same failures with the G37). They have had some cases where the pads began to break apart and cause major scoring to the rotor. There was the major failure with the C&D track test led to a complete failure and sent a journalist into a barrier from a 130 MPH braking point (I believe he had some pedal slowing him intially). In the C&D failure the Nissan techs on site pointed at a poor choice in spec'ing pads for the car. Just a FYI, there are many people using them perfectly fine, track and street use.

thansk, Zazz93, this is some great point you got there, I went online after I've read your post, and find detail about the brake issue that they have, but that is only from nissan brake pad, but i will change the pad to something else, Z1 is also testing their prototype 2 piece rotor for the akebono, so can't wait to see how it performs, and I m still looking for some great condition used stoptech brake from other people, till i have enough money then i will see which one to get, but now i can only do research.

I'm sure with the right pad and rotor combination the Akebono kit will be very good...however if you buy good pads and rotors on top of the Akebono kit you're are already borderlining the price of a good StopTech kit as well

The 28-30lb weight of EACH front Akebono rotor would prevent me from considering this kit over a Stoptech kit that has 2pc rotors that are probably as light or lighter than the STOCK oem Z rotors it's replacing. (vs ADDING a good 10-12 lbs to EACH front wheel.

understand, but the full front and rear new Akebono kit is equal or near to one front kit from stoptech, so i really have to look for used stoptech front and rear, lol.

dude .. seems like you want a full kit(F+R) for a low price. If akebono is what appeals to you and is the best deal for your budget, GET THEM no doubt they perform better than stocks!..

Truth. People fail to realize that a larger brakes are not necessarily better in every respect.

You have to consider weight, pads, heat-dissipation, lines, fluid and bias. I'm sure many members on this board have added giant BBKs (for large amounts of $$) only to achieve marginally better stopping results. Yes, many people have no intention of tracking or etc and just want a BBK for looks, but if you're going to spend 3-5grand on a part it better perform better than stock by a fair ways IMHO.

Akebonos will be better than OEM brakes, but better than an equally sized Stoptech kit with proper rotors and pads. No. Akebonos as stated above are large, but also very very heavy. All that unsprung weight != better for performance compared to a proper track oriented BBK. Street use? Sure. Price? Better than true BBK. Would I buy an Akebono kit? Hells no.

if you're doing alot of drifting, i would suggest you invest in an aftermarket hydraulic ebrake assembly for better rear lock...

you dont need a BBK for drift days... perhaps better front pads, but that's about it. you're not on the brakes long enough for them to heat up for provide any real use, especially when drifting is only on the course for a few minutes.

You may nto know but the akebono kit is not nearly as thick as the stoptech rotor.
