Default Can you Delete VDC with a Base ABS computer

Hey everyone,

I am working on my 2003 touring model that has VDC. I am wanting to keep the abs for the track but I want to delete the vdc/tcs if possible. Would this be possible with a base model cars abs computer. The VDC in my car is freaking out due to tire size so it will always be turned off. But was curious if I could remove its computer and replace it with one that just does abs. This was the only real drawback to this car vs buying a base model. But the price was right. If not I will just leave it alone.

Leave it alone. Putting a base model ECM into a touring model Z means you'll still have TCS and likely a lot of extra sensors open. You can't just delete TCS/VDC by swapping ECMs. And what kind of tire sizes are you using to cause VDC problems?

So tires ae square 245/40/18. Rears are worn more than the front. ABS Confirms there as over 20 the fronts are 1mph faster than the rears. Actually had to fix the wiring for the front right abs sensor as it was horribly fixed. Car was just bought so working on fixing stuff. Just got it running right today for a decent run around the block. If I drive it with VDC enabled once I shift out of 1st gear the slip light flashes constant and the car will not go above 25mph. Figure it will get some tires soon. So I guess just turn the VDC off and that will completely turn it off?

Not quite- turning off VDC only eliminates part of the system. If there's something wrong with your ABS speed sensors it will continue to give you problems, including activating limp mode. Get a good code reader to figure out what needs to be repaired in the ABS section. Your square wheel/tire setup should not be creating that big of a problem, so you have some work to do.

Unplug the sensor in the center console. This will fix your problem, but will turn the light on on the dash

UpRev, you may be able to reflash to a base computer.

So when I got the car it had an abs code for the front right wheel speed sensor. Found the wiring was broken at some butt connectors. I soldered in a used connector and abs sensor from the junk yard. Both are reading just fine now. All four wheels are reading speed. Rears are just a bit faster dude to the worn tires. Fronts are 50% rears are into the wear bars. Only other code was the low voltage code. I will go back out here as I need to fix a wheel stud and pull the codes on it.

Just eliminate the worn tire issue by replacing the rears. There's no reason to be running on worn tires as fall and inclement weather comes on anyway. What kind of code reader are you using?

Well car is not street registered at all with zero plans to do so. Only drove it around the block once. Working on selling the current 18x8 and moving to a set of 18x10 square. First event planned is Road Atalanta in December with NASA. So need to do pads, rotors and wheels tires before then. Plus a massive nut and bolt.

As for a scanner I bought the Z1 unit for $200. Not the greatest unit but somewhat gets the job done for now. Will probably upgrade later down the road. But needed something to pull abs codes and look at some live data. However it's a very slow machine.

Might take the car to an autocross and see how it's doing.
