Do Not Use Meguiar's Clay!
So I start claying the paint on my brand new Z with the Meguiars brand. OK, I admit I'm a dumbass and didn't use quite enough lubricant, but even then the clay shouldn't have done what it did. It stuck right to the paint in sickening globs and WOULD NOT COME OFF. (see thread https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=10689 for pic)
So I call up Meguair's, they say, spray the detailing solution on the clay, let it sit for a minute, and it should come right off. I try this, absolutely no success. It only rubs the clay around more and makes it look worse. I tried vinegar/water solution, Dawn dishwashing liquid, Zaino Z6, NOTHING worked. So after going back in the house feeling very pissed, I come back out a half hour later and found that the clay had dried. With a lot of effort and pressure (and I'm getting more mad because I know you shouldn't put too much pressure or you could damage the clear-coat), I was able to get the clay off.
SO I declare success (and swear I'm going to finish the job with another clay), but then later I notice that there is a thin. slightly opaque, white film still on the paint where the clay was. I try again to use everything to get this film off, no luck.
So I call Meguiar's again, and now they tell me I'll have to go to Pep Boys to get a special paint treatment to get off this film!
Give me a break!!! Anyways, I just wanted to post this and make sure no one else uses this crap on their Z.

Sorry to hear about your problem.
I've used Meguiar's clay on several cars, including my new Z, without a problem. Either you got some bad clay or, as you stated, you didn't use enough lubricant. You may have been pressing too hard also. Just glide it back and forth letting it slide across the paint...don't press down!

I used the Meguires and it works great. I just finished using it before I used the Zaino. No mater what Claybar you use, if you apply it when it is hot out and you don't use the lube then you will wind up with it stuck to your car.

Well, I actually printed out Brad's detailing session and was reading as I worked! Maybe I did get a bad batch of Meguiar's, because I went to the store and bought some Mother's clay, and it was totally different, much less sticky, and it glided much easier.
Anyways, thanks for the advice guys. Here's a pic of the finished product with 3 coats of Z2!

blah.. tons of meguiars clay bar owners compain about it.. I even had bad results with the clay bar.. the Mothers and Zaino bar is sooooo much better. On the LS1.com forums tons and tons of people were ******* the Meguiars clay bar.. I wont ever use it myself.. it streaked my car all over and I had to use bod scrub etc to get it off.. There much have been a crap load of bad batches or something cause tons dog on it. I like almost everything else from meguiars but not the clay.
