Ok...after reading how you're suppose to put a very thing layer of Zaino on...i've decided either Zaino sucks or I have no clue what I'm doing..lol.

I put a "dime" size drop of the polish on the pad Zaino came with and started with the up and down motion...but after doing about a 1ft x 1ft area...the polish was already used up and it felt like i was just rubbing with a dry pad. If i was to do it my way...i could easily use half the bottle on the whole car.

Any tips?

 

The pad seems to soak up a lot of the Zaino right when you start. After waxing a few areas on the car it seems like you need to put less on the pad.

 

He's right. The farther along you get the less you'll need to apply on the applicator. I've heard people say they use about 1 ounce to cover the entire car but I find that I use about 1 & 1/2 ounces on my first coat mostly due to the initial startup. Only use about an ounce on the second coat though since the applicator has a nice saturation by then.

 

The zaino goes on pretty easy and pretty clear (you wont really be able to see it). A small amount (dime size) goes a long way. First buff the entire area (for as long as you wish), then go in up and down motions. Hope this helps.

 

it just feels like a dry rub...ill test out some more this weekend.

 

Are you using the New Formula Zaino? It is much thinner and covers much easier.

Also, Zaino recommends wetting your applicator just a little bit. I do this all the time and it seems to help spread out those first few swipes and aleviates the problem you describe.

 

I would put an X on the pad in a thin bead of polish as not to have any dry spots on the rectangular Zaino applicator, I also mist my applicator slightly with Z-6 to make the polish spread thinner and easier.

If this is your very first Zaino coat, the bare paint will "grab" more polish than normal on a car that already has polish on the paint, therefore you may have to put a little more on the pad on the very first coat....

 

hhmmm...i didnt wet the pad at all...ill try that. I just have the 2oz. stuck in my head and feel that if I go over that, then I'm wasting product. I use so much when i use the meguires stuff..definitely WAY more then 2 oz.

If I gauge by the 2oz bottles they give you for the ZFX..i'd guess I use maybe 6-8oz of regular wax on the whole car

 

I was wondering about that. I never saw that in their instructions or the web site. Did that recommendation just come out with the new formula, or did I just miss it? O Zaino Master?

I think the instructions for wetting the applicator have been out there since I have been using the product(3 years) A trick I use is to take a bit of "naked"(Not mixed with ZFX) polish and put it on the applicator. Let the naked polish soak in a bit, then use the ZFX mixed polish.

I haven't had a chance to try the new Zaino formula, but with the previous formula, I could get one coat per ounce. I have no clue how people can get multiple coats with one ounce.

 

You should be able to do a single coat of polish with LESS than 0.5 oz. easily, a quarter of the ZFX applicator bottle. Any more than that is wasting product. With practice you will get down to 2 applications per 0.5 oz. of polish or less.
