for the cost of the clutch alone (from the dealer) you could easily pickup a quality aftermarket clutch and lightweight flywheel package..

And if you plan on going FI in the future, now would be a good time to upgrade.

ACT
Exedy
Clutchmasters

All have packages for around $1k

Woudnl't lightweight flywheel/clutch be a good option at this time?
Since he's gonna pull the tranny out.
And they aren't so expensiv either.

I think that's what Church was saying too. Either way, the JWT wasn't on that list, and it should be, it's very popular and would be my choice when my clutch finally goes south.

I was told any moving parts specially rotating ones, like pulley , wheels, flywheels, help with performance when u switch in with lightweight parts..

In this case it would be response time?
Im not too sure about it myself.

JWT is what i'd go with too. Althou it clutters(hear noise) at idle i think.

Hey no worries man.
I am not sure what the dealer charges, but I am sure it's alot..
You are probably looking at $500-$800 for the install.

I would call the dealer and ask how much they would charge.. make sure to speak with the service manager.

I always found the OEM clutch to be very soft, and its engagement point was extremely high.
When I switched to an aftermarket clutch the difference was night and day. It's engagement was silky smooth and the engagement point was located at the lower half/halfway point of the clutch pedal travel, which is what I prefer.

The lightweight flywheel will remove unsprung weight from the drivetrains rotating mass, which should allow for a "free'er"<(word) revving engine.
^This normally causes heated debate, so I will only voice my personal experience and say that my engine did seem to rev with ease once I had the flywheel installed.

When I switched, two things were very noticeable:
-Clutch chatter, which is normal with any one piece flywheel. Our OEM's are dual mass which seems to reduce the amount noise.
If you cannot live with a noisey clutch, I would highly recommend against purchasing a one piece lightweight flywheel.

-Initial clutch engagement will require higher rev's.
I would normally engage my clutch at 1500-1700 rpm.
^Note: My flywheel was 10.5 lbs.. one of the lightest currently available.

You may want to read up on the subject. GL!

thanks for all the detailed info man. i really learnt a lot...so where do u buy those aftermarket ones from? FOR Example, ACt....

1000 bucks for both clutch and flywheel? and installation will be around 500 to 800 bucks? that's a lot of money:-)

and normally, how long will these clutch and flywheel last?

i also heard that aftermarket clutch and flywheel are not available for 07/08 Zs...is that true?

You can order in the clutches from one of the forum vendors for a fairly decent price. I would hunt around the market place for a good deal.

Or

You can try JRP (jrponline.com) they are located in Mississauga and usually have Exedy/ACT/Clutchmasters parts in-stock.

The clutch and flywheel should (technically) last as long as your engine... but that depends on the driver.

You can use any of the aftermarket clutches but I do not believe they have a flywheel that is an exact replacement for the HR's.

Jwt lightweight FW has the worst low rpm rev-ing rattling ... even worse than my ACT

Z-Lover,

You can PM (private message) "edvy", the guy who posted above this. He should be able to source out a Clutch & flywheel package, and provide install.
