Imporant notice to those with resonator removed!
I was going to have my resonator removed today but when I asked the mechanic to do it he said it would be a good idea accept for one thing; if you don't use stainless steel piping the pipe will rust out in a year or two, and this shop didn't have stainless steel piping. So I went to another shop and I'm getting it done tom. with the proper piping. Make sure that yours is not going to rust on you.
I'm pretty sure they replaced w/ the same,..or they know You'll come back to get it re-done-- so,..thats what I told the Guy @ mine--I said:
"I don't want this thing to Leak what-so-ever,.so if it breaks a solder then I'll be back!"
Thats the only problem I see if any @ all,...if it rusts then keep your recipt and your GOLDEN!!!
I love it!
and if anything happens,..I'm good,..I don't Fu*k around!

Before you do it, try just unbolting the muffler and see how you like it that way. It doesn't have the annoying cold rattle, and sounds great. If you like it, just get a turn down made or new tips. I GUARANTEE it sounds better than removing the resonator!
oh really? well could you please explain in more detail about this, I'd be willing to try this; I'm not to sure what you're talking about though. Have others done this?
please be specific

I heard a car at the autocross this weekend that had done it. He dynod with everything from the cat-back removed, just the resonator removed, just the muffler removed, and stock. All dyno's were within 1hp of each other, so none of them really make a performance difference, just sound.
His 1st run around the course, taking it easy and feeling it out, he sounded no different than my friends stock Z. When he really ran hard, it sounded extremely mean!
The muffler bolts on with a 3 bolt flange, just up on the left side of the bumper. I think its held in place by two hangars. Just unbolt the 3 bolts and dismount it, then drive around and see how you like.
If you like it, you could either have the shop build you a turn-down pipe, and just straight down to the ground, and have no tips, or they could build you a set of tips to replace the muffler.
XBS, about 1/2 the people who cut their resonators had them reinstalled, me included. Have it put back in. Removing the muffler instead produces the results you are looking for.

so your saying with just the muffler removed only; it will sound way better than just removing the resonator by itself???
because its possible the person could of had other mods beside the muffler being messed with, right???

I replaced my resonators with this Magnaflow straight through 4"bullet muffler. it is straght through, eliminates ALL raspiness, and, in my opinion, creates a very sweet, mellow tone
but DO NOT use the generic Pep Boys cherry bomb, these will burn if put that close to the cats! http://www.magnaflow.com/03cat-back/...nizedround.htm
BTW, regular steel exhaust pipe will rust but aluminized steel works just fine,

I got them for 50 each but it was a buddy deal, you should be able to find them for 65. I did this on a full custom cat back so i cant say what the diference would be using them alone, but if you guys are getting gains by taking out the resonators and going straight pipe than it should be identical with these since they are efectivly a straight pipe that has an outer glass pack muffler chamber to absorb some noise and rasp.
