Caught me in a good mood too. Here's the TSB from first page/post.

Failed my 1st & 2nd test, dealer is installing the v2, should have it back in a couple days. Can't wait, hope its a good v2 (non burner).

Great service from the dealer, really helpful.

Just a note regarding the chart on the TSB: the table starts at 1001 miles (first column), make sure your test mileage is at or beyond this mark before you take the car in to document the readings. If you bring it in early they might have a problem putting the warranty through for easy approval through Nissan.

The smell of burnt oil may be some oil drippings on the exterior of the engine when the tech filled your engine.

You shouldn't really be able to tell how sluggish it is- depending on how you're choosing to break it in (Nissan guidelines) you shouldn't be giving it full throttle or taking it to a high rpm.

I broke mine in using the Nissan break-in procedure for the first 1700 miles. After that I started driving it normally. Last oil change was 1/4qt low after 4.5k miles, which I would consider acceptable (7k total on engine)

as for my V2 engine i'm just started breaking it in (under 4K rpm for 1,200mi)... it feels like the original, maybe a little sluggish.

Dealer did not tape/seal/lock/encapsulate my dip or drain during my OC. Also was not formal about measuing the oil loss. I think this is very dealer specific.

^Mine didn't either, but might have marked/sealed drain plug. Never checked my drain plug during testing, so not sure. Mine was formal on reading level. Agree it depends on Dealer.

After the second oil consumption test the tech forgot to measure before he changed the oil. It was written up as 22mm- bad. New engine. The dealer I went to before that flat out refused to change out the motor after 4 consumption tests. To this day I can't figure out why.

My consumption was about a quart ever 1500 mi.

My V2 has done a 180 on OC since it's 1740mi new. Now with another additional 1600mi since 1740mi mark, I'm only down 2mm. Where as before, I was 12mm down in comparison give or take the 140mi difference between the two.

Have pushed it more aggressively on accels and many more frequent WOT's, but still staying under 4K rpm, well a couple times had to go up to 4500 to get out of stupid traffic situations, but none the less huge improvement with mine since replacement. I followed Nissan's break-in except ~5-6 WOT bursts during break-in pre 500mi mark, which seemed not to harm my V2 at all now.

I've also noticed an increase in mpg since pre 1700mi on my V2. Gained ~3-4mpg on long business trips with same fwy, speed, brand of fuel, A/C on, etc. Think my V2 is sealing/seating nicely and has loosen up some with noticing increase of mpg. It seems more responsive now and really wants me to step it up a notch or two on rpm limit I follow, but I've decided not quite yet until my UOA says all looking good internally.

Some dealers are very strange around this OC issue. I had two dealers play games to not qualify me. Go figure.

when you got your 'o8, did you have to pay the difference of what nissan paid for your car and the 'o8?

not if i would have gotten a base model like the one i had. but since i got a touring, sure you got to pay the difference in models.

i love my 2008, i miss the color of my z though i had a DB. any ways the VQhr is a stronger motor. maybe now i wont have to build my engine when i go FI.

I was told by someone that dealers have a certain amount of warranty work that's considered "ok" by NNA per month. If they make too many warranty claims, NNA can investigate the dealership to see if they are trying to defraud corporate through doing BS service work.

Maybe these dealerships are just trying to stay under the radar. I'm not sure how much truth there is to the whole story.

I read something about that too a long time ago. Think on one of Drivers OC threads and something about every dealer has a non-warranty to warranty monthy ratio that must stay in balance or something like that. Follows what you're saying or heard/read.

The second dealer that played on me I finally won, but it was in the following month or so and they had a very different attitude about my issue, but also came back at a qt low rather than in miles like the previous time they requested. Never the less, interesting and makes you wonder if all that ratio balance stuff is true.

ok. so I'm scheduled for my test diag/setup for this monday morning...I was wondering if I should remove/switchout my JWT-pop charger & HKS exhaust before I bring it in, will it make a difference?

–Have you guys (those who got the switch) gone in mod'd or stock?

According to the service manager at my dealership, it doesn't matter to them... but this could very easily vary from dealer to dealer.

No prob... my car is stock, but i am planning on having the OC test done, and I thin during that time i am going to get an intake and exhaust, so to cover my rump I asked about them. I mean, any reasonable dealership is going to work around that kind of stuff... but internals may be a diff problem, lol.

Have a good weekend now! I'll be working my bum off to pay for my stinkin car, haha. gotta love weekend shifts!
