RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion

For Nissan and Infiniti owners getting replacements, make sure your dealer knows about this TSB procedure.
For Nissan
NTB09-141.pdf
For Infiniti
ITB09-067.pdf
To late for me and probably explains my valvetrain issue on my replacement. Mine was done back in 2008 before this TSB release.

Hey Everyone,
I fell in love with the 2005 35th anniversary model and was going to get it inspected this friday by nissan and possibly buy it, but now after reading this forum i don't know anymore.
The car has about 65 km (canadian car) and looks beautiful. However, the tires need to be replaced. He had already replaced the back tires, and the front have about 30% left. Surprised that he has to replace the tires already...
I called up Nissan Dealership and they told me that when the 1st owner (there are two owners for this car) brought the car in 2008, there was a ticking noice coming from the engine, but after they had replaced the oil that noise had stopped. She had also said there may be an oil consumption issue with this car. I quizzed teh guy selling the car and he told me that he puts in a quart of oil every 6-7 weeks.
He wants about $23k for this car, but even if i take it in for an inspection, they won't be able to tell me if its burning oil.
Any ideas? Should i just stay away from this car and not bother with the inspection?

My car just failed the OC test and was approved for a new motor. Going in next week for the swap, hope this new motor solves the problem. Any updates on people who previously got their v2's? Are your v2's still consuming?

^ No prob and glad I was of some help.
I do 5K OCI's with 100% Synth, so my V2 is border-line acceptable in my book at qt/5K mi OC. My nickel is somewhat under control now but still present in my current UOA's, which should've been 0 from day one imo.
Props to you for actually reading the whole thread. Wealth of info, history and education in here.
Here's G35's OC thread when the first TSB came out for us if interested (a long thread as well): http://www.g35driver.com/forums/tsb-...ption-tsb.html

When you have an obvious serious factory oil burner, it didn't matter on consumption rate what viscosity nor did Dino or Synth for that matter.

I think my next step is going to be to contact the BBB. It's getting to the point (I'm on my 3rd motor with only 17,000miles) that I was debating on just saying screw it and living with the issue. My question is; what kind of problems COULD result over time if I drive this car until it has over 100k miles while it burns oil??

its been a little bit since I been to this thread. I have a 06 G35 6MT. I took my G today to Nissan for a routine oil change after ~3300 miles since my last oil change. I kindly asked them to check the oil level prior to changing the oil. The tech noted that it was low around 1 quart. The tech than asked me if I thought I had a oil consumption problem (this was the same guy during my last oil change that told me that its normal for these cars to burn oil). I told him yes and I would like to start an oil consumption test. He suggested that since my car was still under warranty (~57K on motor), to take it to Infiniti to have the OC test done. Now, my question is....is 1 quart after 3300 miles since my last oil change something to be really worried about. I don't think cars should be burning any oil, in my opinion. I see guys on this thread that burn 1/2 quart every 500 miles, so not sure if I should be concerned with 1 quart or should I chill ....thoughts?

My 03' Maxima burned a qrt per oil change. My Z...... I dont want to say....
It's like a qrt per 900 miles. I guess alot of guys have it worse but it hurts to put in 4 qrts of oil in 3600 miles. I dont plan on doing anything about it though.. My car made 270whp on a dynapak so I think it's healthy as long as I keep oil in it all the time. I'm going to do a built engine in it's life time so let it be.

Is this only happened to the Z in the states or every single 05 06 Z around the world? I am from Australia and just got a 2005 Z track MY06 with 50k on the clock. Anyone from Australia have this problem before? I am having problem getting accurate reading of the oil based on the weird dipstick we got. Is it safer just send my Z to dealer for a check?

Hey All, it's been a long time since I visited this thread. I still subscribe to it but if I do not visit often, I stop getting instant email notifications. Wow… 219 pages to date that is a ton a reading for new members to this thread.
I popped in to read back a couple of pages and I see my good friend 06CPV35 (John) is still contributing allot to this thread. He has taken the gauntlet since I left back in March of 2009 when I sold the bro's 06 RevUp MT with a stealthy engine reman. We picked up two 370Z's ( I also sold my 05 Z33). The cars have been great and I still take oil readings every week. So why am I here? One is to check the page count to quote it on another forum "the 370 Z . com” where word has spread from the G37 forum and Infiniti releasing a TSB (ITB-10-048) dated July 30, 2010 for the G37's on certain manufactured VIN runs for 2008-2010 on Oil Consumption and small block replacements.
Mine is within the OK range on their TSB chart and the bro's is very good.
Hope all is well with everyone. I still get pm's from this thread. It's good to hear that Nissan is making it easier to get an oil consumption test started and engine replacement. Not so good to hear that some (maybe an understatement) are still consuming and people are on their third engine. The 370Z is a great car and now after 18 months and 21k miles later the car is still fun to drive with no worries over OC that is as of yet. It's good to hear that 06CPV35 and some other old timers (thekinn) are taking the time to help others in the community, keep up the good work guys.
Cheers

^Hey thanks for the props Curtis. I'm more-so on the G35 OC threads...still...but here too...still. A revup VQ is a revup VQ be it a G35 or 350Z; we're all cousins in my book.
Good info on that TSB thanks. Some G35driver guy on those OC threads with a 'revup VQ35DE' got a short block replacement. WTH!!! And states the current TSB has been revised to short-blocks.
Anyone here getting revup short-blocks now since Aug 1st instead of long-blocks? Anyone confirm the current long-block TSB has been revised to short-blocks? Aug 1st is Infiniti's assumed revision date. Nissan revised TSB may be a different date. No one seems to be able to confirm Infiniti's revised TSB number on G35Driver. Fact or Fiction.....
Quick update on my re-manned revup:
My VQ is doing much better than before. Terry's continuing proprietary tuning along my worthy and proven ideas/theories included, are providing excellent results. I'm also a member of his private blog with chemists, formulators, scientist, tribologists, etc as well. Spend most my time there now.

^Well deserved!!
True, we are all cousins!
That does not surprise me since most of the 05-06 are about to go out of warranty. Seems they are trying to cut their losses by going with the short block. Maybe because they know it will limp the engine along until it falls out of warranty and then TBSS (too bad so sad). It just a hunch on the dark side.
Be interesting to see if Nissan revises their TSB. I will have to keep an eye on that website for TSB’s. Hopefully someone with a recent engine replacement (after Aug 1st) will chime in with answer (short block or long block).
So you are gonna start charging me a consultant fee now that you are getting deep into the oil business. Should I take out any stock? Seriously that is great, that stuff starting going over my head when they started using words I cannot pronounce let alone spell. I have a sample from last OCI dated May20, I am gonna have to email Terry and see if it’s still any good to send in for a UOA. Then I got another oil change coming up this weekend, so it will be if any only one car’s oil going in both times $100 x 2 = $200 = ouch. Gonna send in my oil since I beat on the car more than the bro and my OC is greater than his, but not in any danger levels. It’s still worth it and a UOA is still your best friend.
