Fuel System Cleaner and Oil type to use??
Hey guys, I just got myself a Z a few weeks ago, its an '03 Touring AT in Silverstone... I love it!! I had a question about using fuel system cleaners in the Z. Is it safe to use a fuel system cleaner in this engine and if so do you guys have any suggestions on brands? Also, when it comes time to change my oil and transmission fluids do you guys have any suggestions on oil or tranny fluid brand or vescosity? Regular or synthetic? And one last thing, gasoline I know should be the 93 octane right? Thanks guys!
We use the Motul Fuel System Cleaner....its the only stuff I trust. 
Fuel injector cleaner is a good idea. I used to think it was BS, until we started seeing injectors clogged from fuel and lead deposits after a short period of time.

Some products have 2 times the amide/amine detergent levels of techron, some have 3, some 4 times.................all about cost per % per tankful of fuel.
Every detergent must be registered with EPA so no secret formula and the Material Safety Sheets tell you the percentage or you can gently evaporate the carrier solvents and weigh the amount of detergent.
If you can buy it at your corner discount automotive it is likely to not be stronger than Techron.
Too much or too frequent detergent has its own set of problems as it may cross react with the minimal cost type already in the gasoline and create new different deposits on the piston crowns.
Good idea to ocassionlly use a fiber bore scope camera thru spark plug hole to have a look see at what is occuring.
For our 3 shops [amd most dealers] BG44K does an excellant cost effective job..........we also use Quick Clean for engines [varnish] remover and a similar product for AT.

through my research i have noticed that a lot of people swear by bg 44k, apparently its good stuff... as far as oil though, what would be the benefit of running synthetic vs regular 5w30?
I've used it one time now on my Z...did get a better idle as a result

Z MAX was sued by for false and misleading claims by FTC
It contained worthless cooking oil with coloring actually cause extra wear vs plain cheap oil.

OK They were sued in 2001 but if you read the zmax forum and update your FTC site you will see that in March of 2003 they have enfact proved that there product works as they say it does. so go to and see for yourself

with all due respect, no one seems worried about my question anymore but more worried about arguing over a companies reputation, all i asked was what oils and tranny fluids are you running lol

I use Royal Purple 5W-30 in the engine.

They didn't win they settled by paying a $1 million fine [refund] back to buyers. Usually the FTC doesn't bother to win they just settle and use publicity to alert public, so many scams to investigate they publicize and move on.
Anyway the whole point was to provide counterpoint so people would do research and chemical analysis BEFORE they put something into mechanical things.

OK true didnt mean to be a jerk.. Anyways from what it sounds like the tread meant engine oil not enine treatment My Bad....
