Sounds similiar to their new high mileage oils. I know the new 10W-30 HM has a 20% ester base stock, combind with a PAO/G3+ blend and high AN content. Should be pretty awesome for those in need of a heavier oil, like F/I applications. Can't wait to try it and get a UOA done.

Long-time lurker... I have an 05 Frontier in addition to my Z, it has the 4.0 L version of the VQ. Would GC work for that engine as well as the 3.5 L?

Yeah, but good luck finding it. Castrol just released a messege over on BISTOG that they will no longer import it. They said it accounted for like one percent or less of their sales, and the new G3+ blend they have here in the states meets ILSAC GF-4 regs, so if you find some 0W-30 and it does not say made in Germany on the back, it's just regular old Syntec.

Although conventional oils have become very good, there is no need to be upset with the new crop of synthetics. This was a natural progression to move to G3 blends. It only made sense as PAO stock became more expensive and the rules for making oil have changed. Manufacturers now dictate what weights and formulations should be in their engines, in order to meet more stringent emissions, mpg, and hp tests. As a result, oil manufacturers have had to switch as well. Most people, including me, think M1 still uses PAO base stock for 0W-xx oils, hence why they test so damn well. Check the UOA page I posted, 0W-40 tested fantastic compared to the 5W-30, which was just so-so. But even Amsoil is switching to a G3 blend. Mobil is releasing their new High Mileage oils which have a G3/AN/PAO blend base stock, plus 20% Ester. This could be the next "big oil" everyone wants. The point is, don't be swayed by changes and heresay. Check the UOA's and see which oils really perform, regardless of whether or not they are a Group 4, Group 5, G3+ german blond with a hint of paprika, etc...

Where did you hear that Amsoil is switching to a G3 blend? Their brand new ASM 0w-20 is 100% synthetic with group 4 and some esters.

Rumor on the oil drop server. Someone had an e-mail from Amsoil in reference to using G3/PAO/Ester blends similiar to what M1 is doing with their new High Mileage formula for future oil grades. But, what does it matter what they use if the end product is good? Getting hung up on whether or not it's a PAO base stock or not limits a lot of choices. Rotella 5W-40 has spectacular results in everything I've seen, and will try it in my Z soon enough. Even if it performs stellar on the UOA, a lot of people probably won't touch it because it's a G3+ base. Sad.

I always use Mobil 1 and after 3k miles of hard use. It still doesnt get dirty like conventional oil. Anyway hows the Quaker syn?

Like resolute stated, its Amsoils high-mileage oil. Many of their "better" oils will still use a POA base.

If you can buy Amsoil in small bulk, IMO the price is reasonable and justified for a guaranteed POA base only.
I'll still buy gas from Mobile-1... lol!

When do you plan on trying out the Rotella? I use the normal stuff in my diesel truck, but trying to decide between the 5w-40 or the M1 0-40 for my built motor twin Z.

I think Amsoil is great stuff. The 5W-30 ASL doesn't look all that great in the VQ from all the samples I've posted, but the TSO 0W-30 looks like a winner.

I have just under a 1k miles to go before I change out my oil. I have M1 0W-40 in there now and a Blackstone container waiting to be filled with it. I would guess by the end of May it should be sent out and I'll have the Rotella in there for the summer's track season. So, don't expect a Rotella UOA from me until late July or August. For a built TT motor, I think the Rotella will work great, but no one has tried it yet. Care to be the first and post your UOA ?

The TSO 0w-30 is really thin, almost a 0w-20...

What? How do you figure? According to Amsoil it's 11.2 cSt @ 100 C, that's a solid 30 wt, and thicker than their 5W-30. Either way, the UOA's look pretty good for non FI VQ engines.

i ran amsoil in my 1.8 turbo jetta and never had any problems. it didnt use any and it never came out black ( i changed it every 3,000).

I was considering using GC but it seems its nowhere to be found. I decided to stick with Amsoil 2000 Ow30 which I've used for most of the last 30000 miles.

Just placed my order for a case tonight. Should be here by Wednesday or Thursday.
