Default Oil PSI at idle

what does your oil PSI idle at?
i think mine was a little under the first mark (30psi) when i first bought the car.
after i did my first oil change to full syn (48k miles), the psi idles around 15-20psi...i checked the dip stick, it was slightly under the high mark...
just wanted to see why it dropped...engine has this very faint shake every so often at red light after its warm..
thanks for any help

Same thing happened to me. When it was brand new, it was around 30psi. After full synthetic oil change, it dropped to 15psi. For me, i dont feel any difference when driving.

are you guys seriouse?

when its kool outside and you start the car it should be above 60psi, when you drive and idle after some time the oil is warmed up it should stay above 30psi and hen you hit the gas you got to get 60psi.... might want to say what kinda oil your using and if you are puting in enough oil

15 psi-ish on both my Z running synthetic mobil1 or castrol synthetic and my cousins Z running regular dino-oil. This is after its completely warmed up though, i.e. after a drive/reaching destination.

The absolute worst case oil pressure is brand new oil with a brand new filter.
As the lighter components in new oil vaporize off then the viscosity increases after a few 100 miles and progressively thickens.

Read your FSM for minimums usually 14 psi on Nissan engines...........why oil coolers are so important, remember oil viscosity is speced at 212F.

A good rule of thumb is 10psi for every 1,000rpm which is the bare minimum.

Great timing on this thread cuz I was wondering the same thing. I had oil consumption issues with my first engine so I am keeping a very close eye on my oil now with this second engine. When warmed up, my oil pressure gauge is pretty steady at about 21-22psi at idle.

I personally don't use/recommend Mobil 1 anymore. If you can get your hands on Castrol Syntec 0w-30 *made in Germany stuff* from your local autozone, otherwise I think my next oil is going to be Penzoil Platinum since the German Castrol Stuff is not going to be imported in the USA anymore.

Oil weight also comes into play for oil pressure. I noticed mine went higher after switching to Motul 5w40.

My bad. Kept an eye on my oil pressure gauge today on my way to work and I am actually between 25-30psi at idle when warmed up. Let me also mention that I have a hand built engine from Japan (version 2) that replaced my original RevUp VQ that was consuming massive amounts of oil. So hopefully the specs for this VQ are the same as the o.g. VQ.

my oil pressure gauge is dipping down to halfway between 0 and the last mark at idle... When I accelerate it jumps up to 60psi or more depending on the rpms...This is on RP 5W30 after the car has warmed up. I checked the oil level and it seems fine, but now I'm afraid to push the car at all???

Don't trust the oem electric gauge as they are just to indicate wide tolerances. Some large diameter and graduated in 1.0 psi increments is ideal.

Was that a robotic hand? just kidding Hex I couldn't hold it

Anyways, after boosting hard then I'm around 20-17psi.
