Default Oil temp gauge location

Where is the best place to hook up a oil temp gauge. The instructions suggest a brass T by the oil pressure sender. Tho i got to admit im not even sure where that is located. Any advice?

Get a Greddy oil pan or JWT pan spacer and use the turbo oil return port.

If you need the gauge, they extra quart won't hurt.

The oil pressure sending unit is right underneath(sorta) the oil filter. I put my oil temp gauge in my oil pan.

Mine is in the pan, located right next to the turbo oil drain line return. That way, I figure I am getting a sample of the hottest possible oil in the system (just came back from hot turbo).

I did not know that.....I have the APS pan. Never compared the 2 pans, but the APS one is pretty thin too.

The stock pan is stamped steel. The APS is cast aluminum. The APS is a lot thicker.

No way you'd be able to get away with just drilling and tapping the stock pan, you might get 1 or maybe 2 threads out it its thickness.

For clarification purposes, mine is "in the pan" but I use an AAM oil pan spacer.

if you did drill the stock oil pan you would need a way to mount a union in the pan..seal the heck out of it with RTV (high temp) then mount the sensor to the union... bolts on boths sides...

if I had the chance or same situation....id buy an oil pan spacer because it servers to purposes....more oil (cooler eng) non permanent mounting spot of accessories.

You could just use an oil filter sandwich adapter. I have 2. Mocal for the oil cooler. Greddy for the oil pressure and temperature sensor. The Greddy unit has 1/8" BSP not NPT ports, but it's very easy to tap it with a 1/8" NPT tap.

No messing with the oil pan necessary.
