Default Need opinions for rods.

I know, this is my first post but oh well Ill give it a shot. Ive got an 03 Touring 6MT just paid off and now im looking to join the boosted club. But...I have been doing some homework and reading that rods are the first thing to go. Im currently in Iraq as a defense contractor and Ive got a butt load of money to burn when i get back b/c im going to end up back over here or AF soon enough, so screw it.

So heres my question. What rods should I go with in everyones opinion? Also, once i crack this baby open and replace the rods, do i need to do anything in particular before/after I put it all back together and put that ***** back in her bay?

I know "you're a noob" or "lol". Flame away, hopefully someone can help me.

They say build it now or build it later, if that helps you any.

If your cracking the motor open might as well replace the pistons also to lower the compression and possibly cams.

It's not as easy as just going in there and replacing rods since you will probably have to balance the crank to those rods and replace the rod and main bearings and a few gaskets/seals.

I would say 70% of built VQ motors go with Eagle Rods and Wiseco Pistons.

In your reference to building it now. What parts would you look to replace? I was looking at HKS forged rods & pistons, along with the HKS cams. What else would you throw in the mix? Im basically a n00b when it comes to rebuilding engines.

suggestions or parts I should look at?

i met a guy in lsa anaconda then, now jbb balad who made 86k delivering news paper inside the fob all tax free btw. average E-4 makes what 38k?

i hear alot of good things about eagle rods to help you decide. +1 for replacing bearings, gaskets, piston heads... might as well send the heads to a machine shop.

I would talk to Forge or GTM sense they do alot of VQ builds, from what i have seen on the forum, but they would give you the best insight on what to get. O, also what is your power goals because that can make it or break it on what parts your getting. Also you goig to have to get a gasket (forgot what the name was), but there are 2 people usualy get its either the HR gasket or Hks gasket, about 90% on that.

My main goals are to join the 500+HP club. This was a daily driver and has about 55K miles on it right now, but after paying it off im going to buy a small truck and just stash this baby away till she's done. Heres a list of the mods I want to make and maybe this will help everyone out with responses on what I should do or if I should go another route.

-ROTA 19x9/19x10 wheels
-Powerlab S/T kit
-AAM competition 3" single exhaust
-HKS forged pistons & rods
-HKS Cams
-IntensePower rear camber adjusters

Basically im just sitting over here looking on the net and finding things that I want to do to it. I have read a few posts on this forum about the Powerlab kit and I really like what I hear, read, and see (youtube). Thats whenever I started digging further and heard about the rods. If anyone sees something that I should have or need please feel free to post it.

Pretty much I want to make my Z something that I can look at and feel accomplished for. Also, if im going to start modding it, I might as well do it right the first time instead of having to go back and be nickel and dimed.

Hmm if i remember reading correct i think the S/T max out around 450hp, but i could be wrong. I would do TT sense i think it sounds cooler to say but it will also give you your goal of 500+ hp goal. Also like Nexx said it going to coast close to that if not more :/

I know this might be a stupid question... but where is Forged? Im in J-ville, NC thanks to me joining the Marines and finding a real nice IT job after I got out.

I wont mind handing over 20K in cold hard cash due to me going to AF in 2011 for about a year or longer.

Well idk honestly if i had that much money i would get the 370z and put bolts on and save for the TT kit on that so far on the HR 600hp with stock engine compared to 450 on 06 and below.

I hate to say something bad about another Z, but I HATE the way a 370 looks and I really dont have the money to buy another Z and throw money into it. It would take another couple of years

I dont mind peaking at 450rwhp or around that if thats all that PL kit will handle. I know I could probably upgrade to the GT37R turbo, so it just depends.

Also, I know that I have a nice flow of cash right now, but I was actually planning on dropping alot of the money I get in 2011 on a house since I just rent right now. I wouldnt drop it all down on a house, but a good amount and then have a little fun with the left over or even invest it.
