Maximum NA Power?
If one wanted to get the fastest Z possible without FI, what do you think the best NA setup could make in terms of rwhp? I'm thinking:
NISMO CAI
NISMO Cams
Crawford Plenum
Crawford Headers
Borla TD Exhaust
UR Pulleys
Test Pipes / Hi-Flow Cats
ECU (when a better one gets developed, probably JWT)
???
What do you think that setup might deliver? What if a port & polish job was done in addition?

Richard 350Z did almost everything you listed (slight variation on intake etc). He dyno'ed 301 before the Crawford plenum and feels it might add 7-10hp. Mossy Nissan Z (greg V) did about the same again but without plenum and was in the 290hp range. I hope that helps.
I'm guessing that someone will hit 325 or more NA very soon we just need someone to put the money and or dyno time into it...
intake
plenum
headers
high flow cats
exhaust
pulleys
grounding kit
cams
flywheel
clutch
should produce some good power I'm guessing around 330 or more... like I said you just have to wait or if you really want to be cool buy all of it and give it to me and I will put it on and dyno it hehehe....

What about port and polish? Did anyone try this?
Both Nismo and HKS I think sell 450hp VQ35DE crate engines... pricey though, I'm guessing one of those engines imported here would cost twice as much as the car...

Btw guys, 300rwhp is only a low 13/high 12. Are you willing to spend that much money (thousands and thousands) for such a minimal gain? You can justify headers and catback though due to the increase in MPG.
Uh, its a race motor, not for a street car, and not sold to the public either

Vic - the above wasn't directed to you man
one of the posters commented on driveability, I was just pointing out driveability was not likely a primary concern for the engine, considering its a race only unit

A new clutch decreases chances of spinning away HP due to overpowering the clutch. Holding power is how much a clutch can take before it won't (
) hold anymore! It is just like spinning the tires. Not good for forward motion. You are probably not having a problem at just 300 HP. I am sure it can take a little more than that. When the stock one wears out though, I would def. get a beefier clutch. The only reason I am putting NISMO's in along with my JWT Flywheel is because the tranny is going to be out anyways so why not get free labor?!!?

The initiating post for this thread asked about speed enhancements without FI. It appears so far all the suggestions have been about increasing HP. No arguments from me on these. I would offer that a couple of more equally important tacts can also increase speed. One is weight reduction - see the recent thread on the body section of this forum. A 10% weight reduction is as good as a 10% hp increase and is better by not adding stress to the engine and drive train. And a 10% weight reduction on the Z is very doable. In fact rotational weight reduction from the flywheel, pulleys, wheels, provides a twofer benefit. Second is aerodynamics. If top end speed is the goal then aero is essential. If 0-60 is the goal then it's less important and maybe the added weight of the aero works against better times. Third is driver skills - but I will presume all Z drivers are fully skilled ;-)
