Default Help with Valves and Compression mods!

Hi guys!, I´m new around here, I just bought my 350z and installed the usual intake, headers, testpipes and y pipe... I usualy race on track days but our race track is at high altitudes (around 6,500 feet over sea level) and I live at sea level, so Trust me, I can feel how a lot of Horses die inside my engine! hahaha )

well, I´m not aiming on a SC or Turbo, I already had a 500hp Seat Leon (same engine than the Audi S3 1.8t) and is just to much money to be wasted also in adding brakes, and more stuff... I just need some good HP´s back in a totally Fun N/A car !!!

So I´m thinking on getting oversized Intake Valves, polishing and Porting, and a kinetix intake manifold or maybe just the spacer, and increasing engine compression but not willing on buying new pistons, so I would like to know how much is the maximum amount I can (don´t remember the exact word) take off from the bottom of the head without problems... I´m used to the VW engines were we coult take up to .040 or so.

Thanks guys... Sorry if I have mistakes on my english and terms but is hard to convert daily metrical numbers and think in ft´s, inches, and so on...

Just buy pistons, decking the head will change your cam timing and there are no (that i know of ) adjustable timing gears to correct that. If you go ahead and do this, throw some cams in it. Valves, i have no idea on how much extra flow you get, something i need to look into as i'm about to start a motor build.

Is this straight line driving or roadcourse?

now I see... this is for Roadcourse... so if I deck the head I will have problems with my timing. hum... Dam this car is expensive to modify hahahha...

Ok so:
Pistons
Intake valves +1mm
and head porting + polishing...

Any other ideas?

BUmp!... would I need to get a UTEC / E-manage or AEM Controller after installing the new Pistons for higher compression?

If Yes... wich one to get?

get UpRev Osiris tuning, a set of JWT springs/shims, and JWT cams. You'll save yourself some considerable money.

Ok so:
Pistons Yes
Intake valves +1mm Not sure if youll see gains with them NA but hey why not try and see what happens. Dont know of any documented NA gains.
and head porting + polishing... Stock Z heads flow very well but again see above, cant hurt I suppose.

Any other ideas?
Cams and Uprev osirus. If you want to go crazy you can go haltech. What heads did you buy?

What suspension mods have you done? Diff?

So instead of High Comp Pistons, getting UpRev, JWT springs/shims, and JWT cams I will get more power when racing at high altitudes?

No heads bought yet, we are going to do the porting and polishing down here.
Suspension mods will be K-sport Coilovers, and still no Diff.

By the Way... the guys from Piassini Engineering offered me the Ecu Flash. this guys are heavy at Europe and there is a dealer down here wich I can send my Ecu and logs, so maybe I`ll give a try with them, but first I need to define which setup I will use in my car.

Don't do 'e-tuning'... get it a proper dyno tune. There are several locals that have gone from 240whp to 270+whp with basic bolt ons and a dyno tune with osiris. A proper dyno tune will yield more gains than any other single bolt on, even on a completely stock VQ. Cams will just shift the power curve to the right...unnecessary for anything other than a full time track car IMO.

If your going to pull the motor apart and do all that stuff, do everything including cams. If not just tune for now and drive, then use the money for a diff. The diff will probably make the biggest difference.

I would actually do a full suspension and brake build before the motor. Hell i would probably do everything to the car before i built the motor. Our cars have plenty of power as is.

I've got 130k on mine now, valve covers have yet to come off.

you cannot increase compression on this engine without

1. new pistons
2. NISMO heads

the larger valves are a waste

step 1 is setting a budget, as that sort of dictates what really can and cannot be accomplished

Well, Budget is around $2,000-$2,500 usd... that`s why I was thinking on Pistons, and work the head (this is free since we have the machinery) and a k-sport setup or brake setup... This car is a Daily driver.

I really like that 1.8T motor, had it in my 2000 A3 when I lived in Morelia.

I started out simple with a 3k budget and am 10k+ into my NA stroker. I strongly suggest you define what exactly it is you want. I have 271/262 on UPREV with bolt ons.

You guys are right... I`ll start with Diff and Suspension.. I already have all bolt ons except the plenum spacer wich next week I`ll order...

Yesterday I got really scared by my car, I went to the road, and suddenly my accel pedal simply stoped working!!!, let go, press again, NOTHING HAPPEND! car simply stayed on any rpms when I press the pedal... let go again, down to 3k and pedal worked fine... but after 4k if I let go it simply wouldn`t react until under 3k...

My head simply started spining around on costs, parts, and all that...

Finally a friend says... hey, your rear lights don`t work... DAM IT!!! that was all the problem

That was funny.

hi im new here too and i have the same questions of surfo, actually we live in the same city and our cars have the same mods. i was doing some research and i found that some people buy a pulley kit that cames with 3 lightweight pulley The pulley kit includes the crank pulley with correct timing marks, alternator pulley, and idler pulley. do you think that this kit help us to gain some Hps combined with the other mods like headers, test pipes, HKS dual exhaust and the plenum spacer??

PS: sorry for my english i have not practice in a while !
