So you were trying to drift while there was a drink in the cup holder? Uncommon sense would have told you that's a bad idea.

lol. it was my friends tall can with only 4 ounces or so left in it. That cupholder was awesome, i thought it would be okay til he destroyed it. Some drifting, some just driving fast and sliding a little. The drift was what took it out. right when i corrected it his knee went bam!

ahh why so low? its legal for him to be drinking in my car in TN atleast. I thought it would entertain you all, but im genuinely upset about the cupholder. I will replace it. Edit: I guess i understand though, it doesnt sound like this was a track. Definitely need to get second car thats less loud, and do some kind of racing to satisfy myself. And just not drive this thing in the middle of nowhere, at night anyways because its too tempting then. Definitely no Dugan Day vid if this is bad..

ahh yet another car update. i was changing my oil, let it drain for an hr, was using motul... While i thought i was doing good, i broke the mishimoto oil drain plug bolt off up in there. Last oil change, i vaguely remember reading not to overtighten
and 15lb torque spec. I was going by hand and did it lighter last time... idk why i felt i had to torque down hard to reach 15 lbs... car inoperable for now.. wish i bought the nismo plug. I just wanted a magnet.

lol. its just that i think it was titanium, (edit: no its aluminum and torque spec 6 and mishimoto 5. i think those higher nums may be max torque) with torque of 25 or something instead of 15. It seems like a higher quality piece, that wouldnt be so dependent on barely tightening.

A cheap alternative to magnetic drain plug is I buy 1/2" neo magnets and just stick 2-3 of them in a stack to the stock drain plug for all my cars
but on the Z I bought a cheap aluminum ebay plug over 10 years ago and never had problems with it

The fact that you broke a drain plug just solidifies my opinion that you shouldn't be working on cars and should sell whatever tools you own.

Its running, but like i said its going to be a lame dugan day. Ive been loving the Z, although ive chilled out some on it. I could prob make a cool vid anyways, but u all dont usually approve of roadway shenanagins, and all i have is my phone w no mount to film. The trans works, but shifter vibrates alot, and theres alot of bad noises. I cant stop buying parts! I could have fixed the trans, but bought alot more stuff instead. I got my tomei headers coming. coilpacks, and new belts and pulleys, extra little transmission goodies.

The z has humbled me and my driving abilities. I still think im a badass, but this things alot harder to drive than an evo x. Super tight roads, im constantly shifting between 2nd and 3rd and braking at same time. My big toe little toe (not heel toe) technique sucks lol. I can do it sometimes but def need to work on it. The evo i wasnt shifting like that. i mean the gears were long enough, i stayed in gear more. I could truly take it as fast as the next guy. Also, this thing is so weird! Like if you naturally drift around corners from speed its perfect, you just cant get too angled. If you try to go into an empty parking lot and downshift into 5k rpms, turning way too fast in second gear (in an attempt to drift way out of radius), its easy to spin out! Usually i turn the wheel alot then whip it back quick. If you turn the wheel too much at first in this thing ur screwed, and spin out quick, or almost do.

On top of all of that the suspension is even more off feeling than it was weeks ago, and its making more noises. Ive made it pop multiple times under stress. Im going to ask them to look at that too. I know something else was wrong with it still when i got it back last time.

Im serious about getting loan on another car, and keeping z. And i have no idea what im doing. I dont even know if its for my ex gf to goto work, or for me to workout in middle of night and keep miles off z. Im certain i want the car to have atleast 350z potential and be sporty, and i want it to be more quiet than mine. I dont care if its kind of stiff, but i want it to not be disrupted as much by bumps. I really do want to tarmac road rally someday legitimately. And i loved my evo for stuff like that so much, i would almost get one. It eats tires though, is not that economic, and insurance prob higher. I might even buy another z and try diff spring rates, or ride height. i love the zs interior.

I did want to say, i highly regret not getting the z1 brake master cylinder brace. From what im reading, this may be a great improvement for me. How high the gas pedal is when brakes are applied, makes my "big toe little toe" technique too hard. the deadzone on brake pedal reduced even just a little would help alot.

so here is what parts i have/have coming for the z

tilton master cylinder upgrade kit
new oem csc
upgraded clutch fork pivot ball assembly
pilot bushing
clutch throw out bearing sleeve& retaining fork
koyo throwout bearing
another clutchmasters fx300 clutch
the new trans

z1 hatch lift kit
z1 undershroud (i had a question for ia8cobras friend, never heard back on email, it was on sale.. sry lol. But, i am buying a bellhousing protective plate from ia8cobras friend still)
oem driver door handle
z1 high energy coilpacks
z1 baffled oil catch can kit
z1 serpentine drive belt kit
z1 lightweight crank pulley kit
new oem oil dipstick guide
z1 350z hatch lift kit
z1/avt racing pedals /competition series matte
tomei headers
z1 catback touring exhaust with modular y pipe
z1 plenum spacer
lower to middle plenum gasket
upper plenum gasket
LMT 4 in intake w gold heat wrap
LMT ported lower runners
LMT ported lower plenum

I plan on having everything installed, except the plenum spacer and ported stuff, then tune. Im still way behind financially and not ready.

Im so tempted to do this oil catch can myself lol.

I may just never do the plenum stuff, and hold onto it for year or so, and get engine rebuilt to factory specs or barely better, when its installed. Im not that power hungry, but realllllllllly want that differential upgrade.. I really may get another 350z, maybe an hr with fbo, or something in better condition. This build will slow down, but ill keep miles off of it. After thinking about it, the only thing making me doubt i like this platform, is the gas pedal brake pedal thing. If i can just get the brakes to engage a little higher or gas pedal to sit lower

edit: and yes i have the tomei exhaust and y pipe on already. I truly do want all tomei. I will have it, but plan on removing the exhaust and y pipe, until its a track car. I want to not be a beacon for cops, or irritate my neighbors if i want to leave. I hope the z1 resonated y pipe and touring exhaust, w tomei strt pipes and headers, will be more quiet. I dont have headers on yet but all tomei.

The best thing to do about the plenum is to ditch all of the spacer crap and just find a used APS plenum. If you can see my avatar, you'll see it. I had it powdercoated blue.

Bully for you.

But why bother with all that unneeded stuff when Thanksgiving is only five days away?

Oh, and "big toe little toe technique"?? Is that what they call heel-toe in your part of the country? 🤡

no i swear i cant do heel toe either. i really practiced it religiously in my evo, and tried it a little in the z. So, i do big toe little toe, with size 15 wide feet. Big toe little toe, which is just what i call it, is hard in the z cuz brake pedal engages so low.
