its in the rear. look under from behind should look like the picture below. can't miss it. hope this helps.

 

Trans fill plug is on the passenger side of the trans. Drain plug is underneath. You will not use the suction gun to draw the fluid out of the diff or trans. You will use the gun to refill the components. Take a look at the pics again. Print them out, compare them to your car and identify the plugs.

but still cannot find the trans dipstick tho. i look under my hood and saw oil dipstink on the right or driver side. look to the left, passenger side dont even see any stick. ??

beside the location of the dipstick, i was just wondering when u said to refill components. U meant to refill differential fluid right? to pump differential fluid in right? and do i need to pump trans fluid using the suction gun too or i can just use a funnel for trans fluid refill?

Someone told me that i should flush the trans too. I could do that by disconnect the supply hose and flush it with trans flush fluid and some compress air. he said it should get all of dirty trans fluid out. he also said changing it only take some fluid out not all. the old and new fluid will be mixed if i dont flush it first. I read up here that people believe flushing trans for the Z is not very beneficial but instead might harm my trans. i am not sure if i read that right. please comment on that. thanks. I am thinking of doing the flush and diff fluid change next weekends. I am waiting for ur expertise inputs first tho. I am thinking of doing this while installing new body kit to my Z too.

BTW, do not by any body part from ebay. they wont fit. A tree fell on top of my Z and damaged the trunk lid and rear bumper. I bought the rear bumper on ebay and it didnot fit right I had pro installed it too...I hate it so much that i decided to install invader 3 body and get rid of ebay "OEM" rear bumper. i thought i should share this bad experience so other wont make the same mistake.

 

manual transmission doesn't have a dipstick. You fill it until the oil comes out of the fill hole just like the differential.

To flush it I would think you just keep the trans open and run some fluid through it. Compressed air sounds like a bad idea. With the cost of diff/trans fluid I wouldn't waste much on just pouring it through. If anything drive it for a while then change the oil again to make it cleaner.

 

my is automatic. anyways i found it but there is no dipstick... i was looking for a dipstick and didnt pay attention to the transmission pipe

I have an 06 roadster with automatic transmission.

I have located the dipstick for the transmission which was not really a dipstick. I was just wonder if this is where i fill my automatic transmission with matic J or somewhere else. The thread show how it was done for manual which was underneath the car next to the drain plug. I havent crawled underneath my car yet. I will tomorrow but i need someone to clarify if the automatic transmission will be filled on the top under the hood or under the car where the drain plug is... thanks

 

^^^YES - thats where you fill it up..


You cant fill it up from where the drain plugs at....that statement alone makes not sense..

 

I tried searching and get different numbers. I'm doing a full flush on my 05 auto. I see some people only change 5qts and others 8 qts,from what I read on amsoil site it has 10.9 qts capacity. DO you you guys replace the gasket when you change the oil or just drain and fill?

 

I did this over the weekend on my 03 track with 5qts of Motul 75-90 in both the transmission (3+qts) and diff (2+). This was pretty easy to do.

One MUST... Get that hand pump with the feeder tube that goes inside the bottle. I found one at autozone for 4$ and it was worth every penny.

Results.. It feels like a new car. Most of it may be in my head but it does shift smoother and the acceleration feels better as well.

 

i did my trans and diff but now it feels weird when i drive. it seems like my gear is slipping on first and reverse. i have an automatice btw. any thought... thanks

 

My FSM says the differential plugs (drain and fill) should be torqued to 23-28 ft lbs. (Not the 55-61 ft-lbs in the OP)

Anyone know where the 55-61 ft-lbs came from?

Found the high torque numbers for the fill plug on MA-24, but the low numbers (for both drain and fill) are on RFD-14.????????

 

good info here...i have motul in my car from when i bought it and i will probably replace it with motul again...i have a receipt from previous owner buying 6 quarts from sharif so i am assuming it was used in tranny and diff..it always shifts good cold or hot and everything has been great so i dont want to change what is working...

motul 300v 75w90 100% synthetic ....i dont need any additives or anything like that and it is good for tranny and diff. correct?

 

Yea I was wondering about that as well. Seemed really easy to break loose the drain/fill plug. Personally I'd just torque it down to 28 ft lbs.

But otherwise great how-to, helped me get and idea of the job beforehand!

 

I have a few questions before I change my Transmition oil:
Is the oils listed on here the same for auto transmitions?
Do you need to change the transmition oil filter?
If someone wouldnt mind and be kind enough to pm me thatd be nice just incase I have more ?'s Itd be my first time changing it so all the help I could get would be nice

 

just do a drain and fill I went with ams atf on my 05 at I bought 8 qts and drained 4 at first drove for like 1000 miles then drained 4 qts and filled with 4 more of ams atf

 

ok so a read the first few threads, I dont want to order from amsoil (even though seems like they are good for this procedure) because I dont want to wait and pay for shipping... anyway, Im going with Mobil 1 75w90 synthetic (read a couple people that have used it for years and works fine, no problems, plus you can pick it up at walmart)

QUESTION: before I change it, this will be my first time on the Z being at almost 90K miles in my '03 base model... question I had is: Will the Mobil 1 75w90 fluid I get work for the transmission fluid AND differential fluid? Or what would you recommend for the Diff and or/ trans fluid? I just dont want to mess this up...

Just read the whole thread and just want to confirm with you guys if i got this all correctly before doing this procedure.

I own a 350z 2005 Touring Automatic.

1. For the differential fluid I should use 2 quarts of either one of these:

Also can someone give me a link as to where I can purchase the Matic J ATF, I can't seem to find it. Would really appreciate it if someone can't give me a direct link.


3. For the crush washer I searched for the part here and I'm showing for different kinds for the 110264N200. Which one should I get?
