NWS Avatars

NWS Avatars
These seem to have exploded in the past year. It is to the point that I cannot seem to click on a thread where at least one member's avatar doesn't qualify for the NWS designation. I have had to "scramble for cover" several times!
Problem here is of a captive audience. When at work (or any public setting for that matter), we don't click on threads that contain an NWS warning in the title. But using the same pic in an avatar makes it a matter of compulsion instead of choice. If a member's account can be temporarily suspended for posting NWS pics in an otherwise innocent thread, why such leniency when the same pic shows up in a premier member's avatar? I remember from my maxima.org days that members were routinely chastised for the same infraction.
I wonder whether my boss has put some members up to this to keep me from accessing the forums while at work

I agree with the OP. I also acknowledge there is a forum feature to disable all images. The problem with disabling images/avatars is that it is harder to distinguish who is who. I personally identify members by their avatars, and would like to continue doing so. Explicit or near explicit avatars would definitely send the wrong message to co-workers or management if they happen to be strolling by....

If you're so worried about NSFW avatars at your work, then why not just disable them?
User CP > Edit Options > Uncheck "Show Avatars" under Thread Display Options
Problem solved.
edit - You can always report their posts with a note saying that their avatar may not be suitable. However, keep in mind that we do not allow nudity, not NSFW materials. That is, if we don't see nip slips or anything like that, we don't edit their avatar.

While I do agree with you, with respect to identifying other members faster, it's not entirely necessary to do so without the use or recognition of avatars. So, no offense, but it sounds like a personal problem - either disable the avatar or risk getting scrutinized by others at work (which is a place for working not a place where you browse forums anyway).
Also, we can't and won't go through all the members' avatars to see if they are safe for work or not, if that's what's being expected.
Another way would be to PM those with NSFW avatars and ask nicely to take them down.

Good to know of the avatar disable option; I wasn't aware of it. But as Vo pointed out above, it takes away the ability to identify a member by their avatar. Plus, we will have to change the option when logging in from home.
My intent isn't to hide an avatar; it is to enforce TOU on avatars just as they are enforced on threads. There is an avatar here of a girl covering her ***** with one arm while taking a self portrait with another; wearing nothing. If that were to be posted as a pic in a "OEM Seats for Sale" thread, the member would be reprimanded by a mod. But since it is in an avatar, apparently it is ok. That discrepancy is what I am trying to point out.
EDIT: I also don't expect an "avatar screening" to take place for all premier members. But mods browse threads constantly and policy should be enforeceable at the time, much as the threads are moved into the correct forums as needed.

Again, I'm not trying to be an ***, but just pointing out the obvious. If you want to browse the forums at work, I guess that is the sacrifice you'll just have to make (either risk it or take extra steps to disable/enable).
In your example, most of the mods would probably not do anything as that still isn't considered nudity. But I do get your point and will take into consideration from now on.
In the mean time, I gave you a few possible solutions in post 6 and 9.
