Default FI question... Dont know which to choose...PLZ HELP!

I have an 2003 OB g35 Coupe 6mt. Im looking to go into FI but i dont know weather i want to go twin turbo or super charger or etc... My g35 is my DAILY DRIVER with about 52xxx miles on it. People on g35driver.com told me to come here for more info. on this subject. I want the safest thing for my car since i cant afford to have my car in the shop lol. What do you guys recommend! there is no such thing as "the safest thing" when it comes to FI. What goals are you looking for? What do you want your car to do other than being a daily driver? What is your budget?

If you can't afford to have your car in the shop, I would suggest you stay away from FI. You just never know.

Glad You found this site as well..... Now see that search button? Type in Vortech, Stillen, APS, Greddy, JWT and so on and start reading.... There is SOOOOO much more info you will get by doing that than waiting for people to respond to this post and you will learn TONS more!!

Here is my answer to your post on G35Driver...

I went with the Vortech after doing ALOT of reading here and on www.my350z.com ... My "G" is my daily driver and I have 65K miles on her now and about 6K w/ the Vortech and NO problems at all with her. I am running the 3.12 pulley and putting down 400rwhp... For me I wanted a safe reliable FI set up and that is what I have. If I break a belt I just replace it, simple... No searching for leaks and I dont have to worry about the rods and pistons as much because of the more linier action on the SC.

Good luck with your decision and make sure to read the Forced Induction threads on here and on www.my350z.com

+1/\/\/\/\ There two ways to to go FI, the right way $$$$$, or the cheap way. Then again you just never know. Save your money and do it right.

Get a beater car. going f/i on daily driver isn't easy on the nerves. i bought a clean 98 neon for 1000 bucks and if my g ever has a hiccup, i don't sweat it because i still have transportation. there is no cheap way to go f/i, only the right way. you have to decide if you are going over/under 400whp. over 400whp, i would build the motor. under 400whp, i think the option is yours but realize there is always the chance your motor could go at lower power levels. good luck on your choice.

most basic kits cost 5 grand and up. i think performance motorsports offers package kits for the turbonetics single turbo and the jim wolf twin turbo kit.

AaaHa! Here are some numbers for you:

Vortech Kit $4800
AAM Return Fuel System $1000 (On Sale for $750 right now)
Walbro Fuel Pump $110
RC 440cc Fuel Injectors $570
Injector Clips (may not be needed with AAM Fuel System) $65
Oil Catch Can $210
A/F Wide Band Gauge $398
Boost Gauge $200
Fuel Pressure Gauge $200
Total $7553

Dont forget to add dyno an tuning plus installation of the kit/parts (unless you are going to do it yourself)...this will probably run you another $1000 - $1300.

So plan on around $10k to do it right. This pretty much goes for any of the forced inductions systems except the Stillen...and I don't even want to discuss that unit...but I will:
Stillen Unit $5700 for Stage III
New Hood $600
Paint Job for Hood $400
New Strut Tower Brace $299
A/F Wide Band Gauge $398
Boost Gauge $200
Total: $7597 (This set up cant be tuned...what you get from out of the box is it!)

True, if you bargain hunt, you can get some of the above pieces for less, but I quoted an average price...so not flamming!

If you do this you can ge the the tuner vortech kit for like 3300. Take the extra $$$ and get a EU or Utec. You'll be much better off and should be about $500-$700 cheaper

I've got the Vortech the gauges and one stage colder plugs, but did not go with the following items

AAM Return Fuel System $1000 (On Sale for $750 right now)
Walbro Fuel Pump $110
RC 440cc Fuel Injectors $570
Injector Clips (may not be needed with AAM Fuel System) $65
Oil Catch Can $210

and did not see them mentioned regularly in the research I did.

Can some one comment on the benefits of these over the stock parts or parts that come with the Vortech kit?? What benefit do you get for this roughly $2000.

Stability, dependability and reliability is what you get for the extra $2k. Do you need those items, no. But Kenny said he wanted the safest thing for his car...heck, I did not even touch on a short block build...which would be even safer for reliability. But for a more technical explanation, do a search under Forced Induction for "fuel return systems". There are some great post going on now about advantages and well, I can see no disadvantage with that set up.

Here a is a great link to get you started:

Thanks Bobstaff147, I completely forgot about the $60 for the colder spark plugs.
