i'm not sure how they would know. not sure how the cali ref ticket work exactly. does anyone have any experience w/ cali ref tickets?

My Vortech equipped 03 just passed smog at a Cali test only station. (test only means they can't tweak it in any way). They just did a visual and saw the CARB ID plate on the Vortech. The only thing they asked me about was the oil catch can and that wasn't a big deal. The car passed easily with very low emission numbers. As long as it is tuned right I don't think you have a problem. I didn't go to a referee since Vortech is CARB legal.

that's really awesome, thanks for the info. sorry, i don't know your set up well, do you have the complete kit w/ 3.33 pulley or do you have the tuner kit w/ smaller pulleys / injectors, pump etc?

wow, great numbers w your setup. i've heard that you shouldn't push stock more than 11-12 psi, but since you have the full exhaust i'm sure it's a whole different game.

do you have a rev limiter? SplitSec box is the original piggy back system w/ the vortech, i wonder how it compares to the newer box (unichip??) i'm assuming it's the same maps, but on different hardware

congrats on your setup. still pretty happy w/ it? do you run lean at all? what are your A/F ratios?

Thanks, rev limiter set at 7100rpm, AFR is 12.0 @ 0psi to 11.25 @ 12-13psi. the SPLITSEC Box works great. I've worked with it for 6 years and very happy with it. Can make a change very easy, download it and test it. I've done it 100's of times.

Lets not turn this into a horsepower comparison thread, we already have one for that.

what kind of exhaust do you have? i have apex single 3" pipe and was thinking of changing it to dual 2.25" X-config. any thoughts on if it'll be worth it?

I wouldn't go any smaller than a 2.5" duel, you may choke things off a bit with a 2.25

I rev mine to 6800, stock blower with a 2.87. That spins the blower a bit over 54K RPM's. I haven't had any issues yet, but if/when I do, I plan to do the 928 impeller ugprade, switch to a 2.70 pulley and add a boost relief valve to keep boost under 14PSI. That setup should give a significant bump in low to mid range torque.

I'd be ok w/ 2.5's dual, but I didn't want to drop the back pressure too much. I thought I was going too low already by changing to dual 2.25's vs the single 3" for the vortech, which likes to have some back pressure for low end torque.

checked out your build, impressive man.

Thanks! I'm planning to go to a local meet on the 25th and see what kind of numbers it'll put down on a DynoJet.

I see that your stated whp is on a dynodynamics. On a dynojet that would be close to 400whp or just slightly over it seems. We have essentially the same modififications intake and exhaust wise, minus my kit, but you had to spin over 10,000rpm's more than I did to make the same whp??? Do you know what is the cause of this or might your impeller speed calculations be wrong? I hit 414whp on a dynojet at 10psi with about 41,000rpm's at the impeller.

From your sig, it appears you have a different impeller ... that will make a world of difference. The 928 impeller is a different design and builds more boost at lower RPM's. I'm making 10.9 PSI of boost at 6700 or so. I would guess at 425 on a dynojet, but I'll find that out on the 25th actually when I go to the Verocious Motorsports meet here in Delaware and spin the rollers on their dyno.

Oh, and I'm certain my calculator is correct. I used the formula that vortech gives to calculate it.

Just looked up the 928 impeller details ....
On-car and on-bench testing reveals that the V+ impeller moves about 15% more air ACROSS THE ENTIRE RPM BAND. See actual data sheets below from dyno testing. We were able to bring the boost in much sooner, which translates into USEABLE HORSEPOWER. Now your S-Trim Vortech can produce almost the same 1200 CFM as a T-Trim below 50,000 rpm (impeller speed) and more if you spool it up to 60,000!
That would explain the 10K RPM difference. Again, this is why my next mod will be this impeller and a 2.70 pulley - I'm certain the stock bottom end will not like that for very long
