Official STS Rear Mount Turbo Discussion Thread
I'll check out the turbo later, but I hit 430whp on 10 or 10.5 psi and 380 or 390 on 7ish psi. It's been a month since the tune and I still haven't received my charts.. but torque I want to say was also around 390ish on high boost.
I haven't really checked for lag, sometimes I think it's a little slow but I may just be paranoid. On the streets I'll have to test in 3rd gear obviously, so what do yall do just hit it at say 2500rpm in 3rd and see when you hit your target boost? Or should I be going faster than that, I've noticed the higher your rpm, say if you start from 6k rpm you may not build enough boost as there isn't as much load and the motor is sucking it too fast. Mind you I do have an HR that revs to 7500.
Before we got my boost controller working right, we hit 449whp at 12psi peak UNDER 6k rpm... tuner let off

Yes try going WOT at 3000rpm from 3rd and 4th and see when you hit your target boost. There is more load on 4th gear so expect to hit target boost sooner. Can you log the result? Do you have a ball bearing turbo?
I don't have anyway to log it as of now, I'm wanting to get the osiris cable soon. I thought until yesterday I had the stock turbo that everyone gets from sts so it was not BB, and I still doubt that this one is, maybe sts just swapped manufacturers. The exhaust side is .58 and intake is .60 A/R, is this what yall have?
Good news, but not exactly sure why. I recently put in a southbend clutch and lightweight fly, and before that I wasn't hitting full boost til about 4500-4800 rpm. Now I am hitting my 7psi low boost around 3800 in 4th gear(starting from 2500). Not sure if I had a boost leak in the pipes I had to take down to get the transmission out, or if the lightweight fly actually made the change. I was under the impression a lightweight fly would perhaps make more turbo lag, since there isn't as much load, but either way, I am much happier now and boost hits sooner. I am also seeing 5+ psi in first when before I was only getting maybe 2. Not sure if I see a reason to heat wrap the exhaust anymore..
the flywheel wont decrease the load, its still trying to move a heavy *** car. the only thing a lightweight does is slightly reduce parasitic losses. NOW with that said if your clutch was slipping then that will cause a loss in load.
you can still gain alot of spool from the exhaust energy, im not going to bash but just so you have a comparison not sure what turbo you have but its a t3 hotside .58 AR and only sees 5 psi in first gear, compare that to my (more then likely) much larger 6766 with a huge t4 1.32 AR divided housing(one side of the housing is about the same as yours) and see 17 psi in first gear before the quick spool setup was installed and 20 psi(boost controller limited it wants to go higher) at 3800 in other gears. mine is also a midmount so even in just that short period you have a large amount of heat energy your wasting still. if you have the cash then i would would heavily recommend it the stuff works.

Even without quick spool you guys should still see significant psi in first gear. I have a holset Hx40 with .70ar t3 and get full boost in first gear, that's 15psi. Perhaps my longer auto 1st gear may have to do with it.
I guess I should have stated that I'm still breaking in the clutch. I'm very close to 500 miles on it, and I've been slowly hitting more rpms. I haven't redlined it in any gear yet and trying not to beat on it, so it just might hit my 7psi in first. Will know more in a few weeks, for my specific clutch they recommend 1000 miles break in, but that's all relative. Will be interesting to see what it does when I put it on high boost of 10psi. I seriously doubt this kit would be able to hit 15+ psi in first though(on my specific application- bigger intercooler with dual outlets for hr).

That help... I have a 6MT and when i switch to a lighter FW i noticed a little lag, maybe 100-300pm lag hitting full boost @4th gear. It hurt more on the early gears because the rpm goes up much faster so my 1st gear lag was more noticeable.

What turbo do you have? Not sure what turbo STS uses now. I'm contemplating on upgrading my turbo. It's been over 6 yrs now and still rocking the same turbo.. feel like running out of gas at 10psi and above 6000rpm..
I don't think the clutch was slipping but I could be wrong.
I don't know what turbo I have, I contacted Precision and they pretty much told me I'd have to take the turbo apart and maybe even send it in to find out which one it is.

That's the thing, I asked on here because I saw most people had Garrett turbos and I never really got an answer. I got my kit second hand from a guy that knew nothing about it so. I've contacted STS and they are no help unless I'm inquiring about purchasing something. I asked Precision if they supplied STS with turbos for some kits, and they did not answer that they just told me to take the turbo apart or send it in to find out the exact model.
I would love to know the answer to this as well. Maybe it's the same spec turbo just Precision not Garrett?? I have no clue

who did you buy it from? Is it a member of this site? Usually i see members here start with the 6262 so unless that person is boosting really high and with a built motor then I will venture to say it's a 6262.. It's hard to compare you're setup with the rest of us because you have an HR motor..
Edit:
Do you at least see what A/R is your hotside? The Gerrett that come with STS is .58, and i see most 6262 are .63. I'm not sure if the .63 makes a huge difference in lag..

No it was on craigslist. The guy who had it was about to lose his car so he sold it to his friend who I bought it from. He didn't have a z so he knew nothing about it. I got it for cheap enough it didn't matter to me, even got a greddy boost controller with it for "free". I knew I'd have to custom fab some stuff to hopefully make it work on mine so I wasn't going to pay full price for a new kit.
The hotside is .58 and intake is .60 on mine. Atleast that's what the outside of the casing says.. The guy I talked to from precision acted like the insides could be totally different if it has ever been messed with and that's why he wanted me to send it in to be 100% sure what it was.

Does anyone know if the piping that connects to the turbo is divided or not? I have a friend of mine that has a sp quick spool valve that I would like to try to see if lag is reduced. Has anyone tried it a lot of supra guys use it. On the website it says that the manifold or in the sts case the piping must be undivided. I don't remember from when I installed it. Anybody know?

I'm doing some research right now to consider some future options for FI or to stay N/A but I wanted to know if anyone had successfully installed the sts kit on a 2006? I've been reading and I got to page 90-ish and TheProfessional tried to install it but nothing aligned.. if I recall?
I know this kit works for anything from 2003-05 non-rev up, and I can only find youtube videos of a 2006 with an sts? HPLogic did the build (I think?) but I don't know if there was a lot of custom fabrication work done to it? Not sure if there's 2006 rev-up STS owners lurking out there...
-edit-
On the STS website it says they have the kit up from 2003-2006.. wasn't sure if they modified their kit or if its still a universal kit that doesn't fit on rev-ups
