Default Performance Questions.

To start, I've been a member here since 06, just kinda looking around. I sold my 03 Tourist about a year ago to get the wifey a CTS. I've always regreted selling my Z and plan on purchasing another one as soon as I sell my GSXR 1K (anyone interested?). I was wondering a few things though. I plan on boosting it somehow since it will not be my DD. I'm not wanting to build a strait drag car, but something to cruise around town and have as much pwr as possible without tearing stuff up. I've always heard it's better to turbo when available over S/C. Any truth to that? And I'm guessing that 2 isn't always better than 1 since their are single and twin turbos for pretty close prices. What are the pros and cons to single vs twin? Last but not least what would be the best kit for me? S/C, Single or Twin? I don't want to have to have rods replaced or anything major if possible, I'm sure the install of the turbo/sc will be high enough. I maybe way off my mark and sorry if I am. I've never moded a car before, only bikes. Thanks in advance for you time to answer my questions. Like I said as soon as the bike is gone I have the ok to get the car so, pics coming soon!

If you don't want to build the motor, then I'd recommend waiting for kits to come out for the HR motor (some announcements likely at SEMA). The HR motors I imagine are going to allow bigger builds for less $$$. That said, twin turbo is the way I think most people will recommend.

it really depends on your budget and on what your goals are. if we are going to go by what you said here "something to cruise around town and have as much pwr as possible without tearing stuff up" id say go with a single turbo. twins are very upgradeable but run a higher chance of breaking things. with a single turbo you should be able to make good power without compromising reliability. twins youll be able to make more power. but single is probably the best of both worlds and would be a good choice for your own personal goals. personally i wanted big power. so i went with twins. it all is buy preference. but id say a single would suit your goals best.

Define better.

I suggest you spend a good number of hours browsing through as many old threads in the forced induction section as possible.

That is the best way to answer your own questions.

Spend a couple of days doing some research.

FYI, I prefer Twin Turbos for our cars.

I like the single setup myself, I always wanted a 3" single exhaust so i figured that would be a nice touch to it also. Plus I knew Performance Factory cranks out some NASTY TN Single cars...

Go to some local Z meets and try and get a ride in a SC and TT car. See which one you prefer

S/C will be a bit more reliable in the long run but not as fast even though it will be more responsive with "instant power" whereas a turbo kit will ultimately be faster and have more area under the dyno curve, but will be more stressful on the motor and there will be some lag associated with it especially in the case of the ST kits.

The stillen s/c kit has no lag, but the vortech does have lag; vortech boost kicks in around 3500rpm or so.

Thanks guys. I have done some searching. The only problem with that is usually people focus on what they think is the positive points of there set is and I'm looking for unbiased opinions. As for "BETTER", I meant for over all reliability compared to gains. Like if I can get 380whp from a charger or 400 from a turbo and be more likely to break something w/ the turbo. I'd rather go with the s/c. I guess really what I should have asked was what can I expect from the different kits (single, twin & s/c) pwr wise and dependability wise. I'd like to get about 400whp safely if possible. Thanks again for your time guys. Also do you run the same amounts of boost between the kits? Average of course.

Dude, do yourself a favor and get a low mileage 03 base. I found one with leather seats...

You can run crazy fast times with any kit you chose in an 03 base. Its the lightest model and it does make a difference.

Click my sig to see why

This run was at around 400hp but I ran 11.9 with 360hp. I've never had any tranny or axle issues and I believe the weight of the car has helped in that area... Less stress on parts!

Don't discount the weight... When I drive my buddy's 04 touring it feels like a tank!
