Barzten1 - i'm breaking the cardinal rule of F/I, but I'm putting half of my Vortech purchase on my credit card. They gave me some of those checks this past week, but it's actually for 1.99% apr for the life of the balance. 3% fee up front. I'm actually going to pay off my car loan on this, since my used car loan is 7.24% - will save my $60 a month in interest payments

What would be the best way to approach a loan for this. Sick of always worring about the motor life and sick of sending that blower back to Vortech. Want some new wheels too. hehe
A motor build isn/t help with blowers going bad. Gotta be another reason for spending big bucks? Like a Turbo or T'Turbo's..Come clean!! Thinking of leaving us for the dark side of power?

New news today. Sam and i talked for a while and decided the new game plan is to go with a different cog setup. we are going with the 34 j/s, remove 32 j/s. remove 2.87 serp, install 3.12 serp. my theory on this is the 3.12 has more surface area to supress the belt slipping a little more as well as bring the peak boost down just a little bit. Sam also removed the two vortech idler pulleys at the top of the mounting plate and installed GTM pulleys in there location that are a smaller diameter. the reason this was done was to give us more clearance between the two belts runs that come close to each other as they come into and leave the serp pulley. in addition to that a GTM pulley was added on top near the serp pulley to to supply down force on the belt like a pinch affect so the serp belt cannot ride up during heavy loading or high boost conditions. i ran the calculations and this is how the cog/srp pulley setup will play out.

OLD SETUP WHEN I ARRIVED AT GTM

6600 RPM 32 GS COG, 28 SC COG, 2.87 SERP PULLEY,= S/C RPM 54554.31

NEW SETUP PROPOSED BY MYSELF AND SAM

6600 RPM 34 GS COG, 28 SC COG, 3.12 SERP PULLEY,= S/C RPM 53319.40

Si-Trim rated for 55,000 rpm.

here is a rough drawing i made of what the belt routing and pulleys should look like

Oh, and I guess I should say, I'm going to give the Si trim a shot with the 3.33. I should be getting the kit sometime next week. If it doesn't work out, I'll be looking to trade the Si for an SC.

I'm going to be putting a list of noob questions together, but will be sure to cross reference them with the Vortech FAQ before asking.

I'll be sure to keep the forum updated on my progress - although installation won't even start for a few months most likely (Wisconsin winters suck).

UTEC w/ MAP, map selector, RC 650's, and will be ordering a Walbro. I know you'll think I'm crazy, but I'm going to try to street tune this thing myself (being VERY cautious), then take it to a dyno in town for the final tune. I'm going to have to learn a SHITLOAD, but I'm excited.

hope it works out!

the only part of that belt layout I see as possibly being a potential problem is that last idler pulley next to the crank pulley. It will actually give you less surface area and less tension on the crank pulley. It might not be a problem at all though, and just need to try it out.

yeah that looks better

that whole area looks better than stock since it eliminates the long stretch of belt

I ran the 34 tooth cog and a 3.12 serp pulley with the T-trim at first..... exactly for the same reason . I just thought the 2.87 didnt have enough gripping area . I never did the math but thought it to be real close to running the same as the 2.87 and the 32 tooth .

so are you drilling and tapping for each of those pulleys from GTM? are those pulleys running about $100/ each? looks like a good idea to reduce belt tension while still reducing slip. your alternator and water pump will thank you.

Hmmm . . . so I guess these are all things that need to be considered if going with the Si trim.

had to rework the pulley plate with a new pulley configuration as noted above. Sam is looking at this as if he was dealing with a T-trim which he has alot of experiance installing and tuning z's with T-trim vortechs. the blower was performing well with the runs he did get in but just as he hit 5500 rpm's at 12 psi the belt would walk off of the serp pulley. this pulley setup we have going on now should cure the problem. i hope you do not have the same problems as me str8dum1. hopefully this is all worth it! if not like i said before i am throwing in the towel and going with TT's. the magic #'s i am looking for is a little south of 450 rwhp and around 360 to 370 rwtq, if not i will be pissed. Sam is looking for 470 rwhp on a conservative tune. WE WILL SEE!!!! i am a little skeptical at this point..............
