ATI Pro Charger News and Updates (to be ongoing)
Nothing extra should be needed my cost was all labor 1000 bucks is his flat rate including tuning.
$65.00 *15= 975.00 he made it an even grand.
I have talked to others who also state it's a 20 hour job so if you can get it done for anything under 15 hours I would say you are doing good. There is also no tax on labor in CA.
Oh one thing, to tune you need a wideband 02 bung tapped into your manifold and a guage helps so that was 180.00 in parts.

Max, what's the word on the 9PSI pulley. I'm still waiting for Altered Atmosphere to get back to me on mine with my order, Spencer said that ATI was testing the 9PSI version. You have any news on it?
Thanks
Thanks
G3po.....i looked in the book tonight......there is no off-centric adjustment for the pulleys that are for the serpentine belt.......there is a jack-shaft that's adjustable for the prochargers cog pulleys that connect to that......so i guess for the most part, only a shorter belt could eliminate the squeeling if it continues........when i was at Max's house, and he started his car, i did not hear any squeeling.........i love the sound of the engine though........for some reason it reminds me of a Gatling Gun
Dr Bonz.......it appears from the manual that the oil can be changed by a rookie.......the drain plug is at the bottom of the C-2 unit, so the rookie needs to have skinny hands, or a bitchin' set of tools......but it can be done.......i'll probably rig up a small funnel and tube deal to keep the oil out of my engine bay

That is true, they *are* testing the pulley and what A/F numbers it makes etc, they will require lots of data before these things come out in volume. They guarantee the kit with the 7 lb pulley whether it makes 6 or 8 with a 3 year warranty. That may not be the case with the 9 lb pulley so see how your 7 lb does first. I know they were reading some A/F numbers on the 9lb pulley today so it's close! As you know ATI doesn't like to rush thing out till they are right and getting it right means lots of data, they are in the data collection phase of the pulley. HTH's!

What about the JIC car that has been running 14psi for a few months now? Have they run into any problems?
And Max, what wideband did you find for only $180? I paid over $700 for the FJO I had on my last car. I know AEM has a new one, but its still close to $400.

Here is a short 15 second mpeg I got of Mike returning to the parking lot. You can hear the SC and the louder, mufflerless exhaust. Sounds pretty mean IMO

As for the 9lb pulley, I'll give ATI a call today and see if there is any progress as of yet. As Max said, they won't release it unless they are sure that it is ready to go to market. I really respect that about a company.

Um guys... the 7lb pulley is making over 100hp to the wheels, and appears to be not too harsh on the engine. Is 2 more lb really necessary, especially if it pushes the engine into the shortened-life zone?
I mean yeah, it would be great if it Just Worked without any extra wear. But that's unrealistic (no extra wear) and I certainly wouldn't hold off a purchase waiting for it. It won't be a "free" upgrade. It will cost in terms of strain on the egine.

I've always wondered what method supercharger/turbo manufacturers use to determine if a user "overboosted" when evaluating warranty claims?
If you get a friend to purchase your smaller pulley then there won't be record that you have a smaller pulley.

A lot of the manufactures use a seal on the pulley. When the seal is broken then that's how they can tell. With ATI you need to buy pulleys through them. This helps control the warranty on these system. I'm pretty sure they have a seal on the pulley too. A lot of people they just get a larger crank pulley instead, so they get more boost and it would be hard to tell if they over boosted it because no seals would be broken.
Dear 350Z owners,
We here at ATI thought we would just take a second and chat about some
of the quesitons/concerns that you all may have with the kits. But first
the staff, as well as myself would like to thank all of you for giving such
detailed feed back on our kits. We are all glad to see that HP goals are
being met, if not exceeded. So if I may.....
~~Owners Manual~~
If you need to get an owners manual all you have to do is call us at
913-338-2886. Give us your serial number and you will get a Free
Replacement sent to your address. If you do not have a serial number we do
ask $10 to cover the shipping and handling.
Also this owners manual is one of the more detailed ones we have, and is
nearly 65 pages long. We included lots of photos, for those of you that are
"visual" types (myself included) for faster install times.
~~Eccentric Tensioner~~
This was asked about a few posts back. It is the tensioner that controls
the belt tension on the two main cog drives. With one tensioner, both belts
can be adjusted. This not only makes things less complicated, a cleaner
looking install is gained. The serp. belt is controlled by a standard jack
shaft style tensioner that is retained from the factory.
~~9psi pulley~~
This has/is being tested for a long while for many different reasons. As a
few members already pointed out, we are in NO rush to bring something to
market that we are not 100% backing. So we have to make sure we have lots
of longevity testing, durability, and fuel system testing. We feel that the
inital gains of the system are very outstanding, and excited to see where
some of you take these cars. Once more companies offer computer tuning,
injector swaps, etc. there will only more power to be made. The limiting
factor right now is the computer, and fuel system.
While on the topic of "room to grow" the blower has A LOT more left in it as
far as operating RPM's to make more boost. The 7 psi system only spins the
unit 60,856 RPM with a motor redline of 6600RPM. The unit itself can
withstand 80,000RPM for long periods of duty. Thanks to the dual
bearings that reduce bearing speed by 50%, as well as the other "race" parts
adapted to this small unit.
As stated before if we don't feel 100% confident that a stock fuel
system can handle the 9psi demands, we WILL NOT sell that version as a
complete kit. But rather a tuner kit, where you can add whatever tuning,
and fuel components you and your tuner feel needed. To make a short story
out of the long it could be worded as followed. If you have a stock car and
like the gains of 7psi we have a 100% complete system for you. Though if you would like a
bit more, we can offer the boost to get you there, your tuner will supply
the rest. We do not know if this will be the case as of yet, though I was
stating that as an example. The KEY thing to remember is that boost, is just a measure of back pressure. POWER is what really matters matters, and more so, reliable power.
~~Belt Squeal~~
Lastly though surely not least, the issue of the mystery belt squeal. We
have a few ideas as to what is causing the squeal, and would like to share
that with you. Since none of our extended duration test cars feature
this issue we are trying to duplicate the results. Please bear with us as it
is hard to come to a solution when you can't duplicate the issue. We have
come to a few good solid ideas, and I am in hopes that a few of you can try
these. We will then look into adding this to the Owners Manual in the near
future.
1. The Power steering lines are disconected durring the install, thus an air
pocket can form. Once reconected and filled this air pocket can cause the
pump to have an odd load on it. (higher than normal) So this air pocket will
need to be bled from the system. The easiest way to do so, is before the
belt is placed on the car, TURN THE PUMP IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION as
normal. This will help aid in the air being beld from the system. Do this
by hand for around 2 min, or until you feel confident.
2. Another thing to consider is that now you are driving a slight bit more
of a load on your 6 rib belt (driving the blower) so your factory tension
setting will no longer apply, and will need to be increased. The factory
drive belt is manualy adjusted from the factory tension on the underside of
the motor. Because the factory tensioner is not a spring type, it will not adjust to catch the slack as the belt stretches. It will need to be checked every now and then, to tight as the belt breaks in. With these ideas in place, we feel that the "squeal" will be a
thing of the past, though we will continue looking into it.
I hope that this post has helped those of you with the kit, as well of those
that are looking at the kit in the future. As stated in the post made in
the past, we are all excited about this market, and can't wait to see it
grow. Thanks for all your support, now and in the Future.
