ATI Pro Charger News and Updates (to be ongoing)

Sorry to hear about your woes Max. Hope it's nothing major and gets resolved soon.
Thanks,
Yeah they dynoed the hell out of my car then called me about some waiver. The oil problem happened the second day I drove the car 2nd start after driving home from their shop and parking it if that helps.

Max, what was your A/F ratio during dyno tuning. If you were not lean, then our engines should definately be able to handle the power - it's not as hard on the engine as Nitrous, and many people are running that. Probably a faulty install. If you were here Doug would do a good job, and any help I can be I sure will. Let me know what your A/F was though.
Everyone is going to have something to say about this issue, let's all just pray my engine is OK. That is my main hope. I have modded several cars safely before and never blew an engine never even threw a rod so I am hoping for the best. I have ran much faster and harderr before too. So let's see how this plays out.
They kept all that stuff and most likely faxed it to ATI (I am assuming) normally I get a printout out of rpm's air fuel boost etc, I didn't get any of that. All I got was the HP chart.
Max, I hope you get everything worked out with a minimum of cash and time outlay. It sounds like something is up with the pcv system. Part of the ATI install involves modifications to the stock pcv system, so your shop may have done something wrong there. If they installed the check valve (pcv valve) backwards, I think you'd see the problems you are seeing. Or, the pcv could have stuck open for some reason. The pcv is the next thing I have to do in my install, so I'll let you know if I come up with any solid ideas after looking at it.
BTW, my install isn't going very smoothly at all. I don't think it's really ATI's fault, but my car is requiring some modifications to make the blower actually fit. I'm working with them to figure out the problem, but it may require a modification to one of their brackets and even some drilling and tapping of new holes on the blower.

Max, I believe you are referring to the bypass valve. On the kit, this will vent from the pressurized side back to the intake. This should not cause your problem.
The problem you have is excessive crankcase pressure. This can cause a lot of problems as you have seen. One problem is oil in the intake. Get enough oil up there and it will end up all through the intake tract. That's probably why your now externally vented bypass blew oil all over the IC.
The ATI manual is indeed wrong in several places. I started out my install documenting all the errors I found. I've now wasted too much time so I'm just trying to get my car back together and on the road.

max hax-
when my VQ was supercharged with the Vortech, i also noticed oil coming out of my dip stick tubing.
the resultant was a valve cover seal had ruptured under boost.. i only noticed this when i was at 9psi and not at my 6 psi pulley.. i dont know if this might be the same thing with your VQ and ATI, but i swapped out the seal and everything was ok again, until it started to leak yet again...
as for the safety valve opening to atmopshere, its not recommended with this Z ( we need a return valve back into the intake).. venting to atmosphere will mess with the ecu... and sometimes emmissions... but if its blowing out OIL, then that means there's oil in the piping ... check the bearings of the SC.. is there any way you can take off the intake piping (filter) and see the turbines? any oil on the inside of the pipe? a seal rupture will also leak to the out port... if you put your finger inside the BOV, and it comes out dirty.. that may also mean leak.

if there is oil INSIDE the cai tube, it might mean a leak from the blower... since that's the only thing the CAI is attached to other than the filter, right? unless you're thinking the oil is shooting out of the valve cover and being sucked back in...
is there any way to check the oil lines for the ATI? are they all 'internal'? what's their return lines like..
edit: the S/C's seals.. is there oil dripping from the turbine fins?

Does anybody know if the ATI kit reuses the stock pcv valve? If it does, then it may be ok up to a certain boost level, but beyond that the valve won't hold against the boost pressure. This would pressurize the crankcase and cause most of the problems Max is having. I might be talking to ATI today, if I do I'll try to ask them about the pcv valve and plumbing...
I spoke to Max just a little while ago........he had his compression check done at Nissan and confirmed my suspicions that his engine is just fine.......he also told me that Force Fed admitted that they didn't even go by the manual.......so it's looking like they got some hoses mixed up........damn, now i need to find a different installer
On another note......i spoke to ATI this morning about their warranty in relation to the installation........they told me that any shop can do the installation and the warranty will still apply

Wow, this is some nice information. Now we just need to get a list around the country of 'good' installers. How is that place in Maryland that Dr. Bonz is going to? I would be willing ot drive there for good service!!!
Thats good to hear about Max's car! Hope you find a good shop to deal with EJ.
Mike's car has >1K miles on it with the Procharger and he has had no problems at all. We have two Zs here getting ATI installs and another coming in a couple weeks. Details to come as they are finished and ready to go!
