Default wtf my vortech blower going bad?

Ive had my car for about 2 weeks from GTM and I just hit 1000 miles on the kit with no problems yesterday. Today morning I start up and notice my blower doesnt sound normal... It sounded like someone was running their fingers over an electric guitar. I drive to work 50 miles and notice the sound is louder at idle. Right now I just got home after another 50 miles and the blower is making a LOUD whine at idle/low speeds but sounds normal at 40 mph+ . I already talked to Sam@GTM and Im going to have to drop the car for them to check it out...

I thought Vortech already fixed this fcking blower issue????. I was told the blower going bad sounds like metal scraping but this is not really my case...are there any other possible causes?

Could be the belt...

Seems like everyone who had the blower itself fail said it def sounded like metal on metal.

just pull the filter and you can obviously see if its the impeller.
here's a vid i took of mine when the impeller bearings crapped out. YOu cant mistake the grinding noise.

Thats a cool little clip.

Yeah it would sound like rocks rolling around in the blower if it was bad.

It was definitely an unmistakeable metal on metal high pitched whining noise.

not sure if its a metal on metal sound, migh be but just in early stages of eating itself. im going to have to take of my cog belt tomorow and check it out. Anyone know if running the blower at low RPMs for a long time causes issues ? like oil circulation? For the past 1000 miles I havent even hit 4500 rpms because of knock issues untill I get my meth injection installed and retuned.

BTW, if the blower has gone bad..would vortech replace my blower with an upgraded unit with added money?

4500 rpms is still spinning the blower at 30,000+ rpms.

theres no early stages of the bearings going bad. its pretty much all or nothing.

best bet would be to pull the cog belt and wit til Sam looks it over. If the impeller goes, it can send metal chips thru your intercooler and maybe trash your MAF or motor.

just took off the cog belt and yea, I have that grinding sound when I turn the pulley on the blower...sigh. Pretty nice that the car still is driveable without the blower spinning . Anyone know how long it takes for Vortech to reship the repaired blower after they receive it? Sam said it will take atleast a week....sigh...more rental fees if I cant find a car to borrow...

Usual turn around time is 2-3 weeks after sending it. I would overnight mine there and it would save 2-3 days

man i agree! Ive had terrible luck with going FI so far....sigh. Im thinking about purchasing a new S-trim blower and have GTM swap the blowers and send out the defective unit. This would remove any down time and I would always have an extra blower incase something happens again down the line. What do you guys think?

Also, Is it bad to drive the car without the blower spinning on the current tune? I would guess its just running really rich correct? As long as I keep the RPMs low shouldnt be a problem untill I get this situation fixed?

to outright buy a S trim blower is like $2300, if thats what you meant. doesnt sound very feasible to me. thats 1/2 the price of a turbo kit that gets rid of all the belts and other crap that can cause problems.

your car shouldnt be running rich bc its staying in the 0% load column. the UTEC scaled back for your injectors and the ecm scales the rest and controls your timing. You can run it WOT. Its no different then if you didnt have a blower at all.

IIRC Vortech charges around $300-400 to convert your SQ to a S trim??
