^^ Good points made, however this thread sounds like a talk show where there is much said & little gained, or like grown-ups talking around small children( the children are forced to remain silent and observe).

I have a JWT TT set-up on my Z and I am considering a standalone EMS system. How can people like myself gain any insight about the different systems available if the information being provided is muddled with personal attacks, bias & agendas????

While myself and the rest of the community are grateful for this discourse I feel it will be more useful if (as some have stated) the discussion generates in the field experience and technical information. Those of us that are not as knowledgeable look to some of the people that have posted here to give us the benefit of their knowledge.

those boxes are out dated, they do not represent the latest and greatest technology in the motorsport industry(hardware or software).
while MoTec uses aerospace and military spec parts ect down to the gold paint. these boxes are just typical automotive grade.

What you dont do is come on here with LITTLE to NO experience with this EMS and try and tell us its the best thing sense sliced bread....that its better than Motec...that its too good to have faults. People on here are still recovering from the VRT burn....so people will start to thing that you have something to gain by posting like this instead of just being a Nutthugger!

Like I said....I will be in AZ to see for myself and I will wait for Jorge to tell me whats up.

BTW....If Sharif reads this or I will call him on the phone....I want him to pull my Vpro out of my car throw it up in the air and have it land on the concrete floor ( need Darren to tell Sharif how high he threw it in the air)....put it back in the car and start it up. With this I take it if the car starts this will make it as good as the ProEFI...right LMAO !!!!

you forgot to say to submerge it in water and throw it up in the air again ... probably that nice fish tank you have a home will work

btw HIn is OCt 18
hopefully you cant make it...
I see you point btw. In the end, its the users that will report their finding on the ems so fair to say lets way and see. Also to be fair, the user software really need to be finalized to have a proper comparison to motec....as far as hardware i dont think there is any questioning to do. As other motec dealers like Titan Motorsports and they will tell you hardware proefi uses is superior with the professor, I/Os imput and knock control... but motec has an amazing software which is what has been setting it appart all this years. So for us in AZ we do get insides into what Jason is doing so we are very hopefull on the quality and felxibility of the user software. The software is key(which btw i have heard great things on the haltechs interface, but not sure how flexible it is compared to motecs).

1Zweetz is spoiled cause he gets to spend more time around proefi cars since the begining, so if he sounds really excited its probably cause hes probably seen more detail into the proefi than I have.....
Others like mrg is recently having his car tuned(waiting for a vig on the tq converter it hink) and has seen first hand jason's work on his car, which is why he sounds very confident as well. Of course you will get to see proefi cars first hand when you get a chance to stop by AZ, LMK

OK, so if you throw the motec up in the air 100 times randomly over 2 days and works fine, then you do the same with proefi and also works fine... your point is that motec is better because it used gold plating on the case? lol
Quit trying to justify your investment$ because how much it cost you$$$$$$$$$...
THe only real point you have is that proefi software isnt out yet to properly compare.

my motec investment was for a race car, so it is justified
my 2nd point is even the gold plating is military spec.
we will all see the software, hopefully sooner than later.

Out dated...if this box is outdated with a 56mhz processor...what is the motec with a 35mhz processor....a DYNOSOUR?

Do you even know what mil spec is??? What is their Specification...what does it have to meet? (I already know) Are you now saying that all the military vehicles have motec's in them? They must....they are Mil spec... certainly the military doesn't use "automotive grade" ecu's. A little FYI (for those of you that were REALLY wondering) military vehicles use the STOCK O.E.M. ecu's in ALL of their vehicles. The connector and enclosure is the ONLY part of that box that is mil spec, or water tight. Submerge it in water and you have a paper weight. Why is it that Motec is 1/3rd the money any where else in the world? It's because Jim Munn (motec usa) controls the pricing and trafficing of their product here. I'll take my O.E.M. "automotive" grade computer over your "mil spec" electronics any day without blinking an eye.

Doc, this reply will be long-winded, but overdue at this point:

I was fortunate to have been referred to arguably the best neurosurgeon in the world for my endovascualar condition (arteriovenous malformation c3-c5), Dr. Robert M. Spetzler, the Director at Barrow Neurological Associates. When I met with him the first time I had already done research on my condition and on him. Therefore, I knew as much as a non-medical student could know about my condition as well as that Dr. Spetzler's credentials as a world renowned neurosurgeon warranted his advice as being the supreme direction that I would go. Tying this in with what we do here at Intense (since you asked), I will give you a brief history of our business and how it ties in with Jason and ProEFI.

Intense Motorsports was established in 1999. Before our doors opened, we already had 8 project Supras. Our clientele was, and for the most part always has been private, wealthy, professionals, whom not only wanted to have the fastest street cars -- but also wanted to maintain a certain level of anonymity. One such individual, whom didn't care so much about obscurity was a wealthy business owner named Saad N. Saad. He came to us wanting one of the quickest, fastest Supra 6-speed street car in the world. Saad had and has always had several cars, but his sports car love was originally with the Supra. [To date he owns 3 Supras, an E55 AMG, SL65 AMG, SL600, Viper ACR (which we twin turboed), EVO 8, and a few bikes]. With the help of Jason, whom at the time was the chief designer of the AEM EMS, we accomplished huge feats not only in the Supra world, but also in the development of the AEM EMS in general. By early 2004 we were making 1300whp+ and going mid-9's in his 3800lb, stock displacement Supra.

Around that same time, before HKS went public with the V-Pro for the VQ, Jon Kuroyama (the head of r&d at HKS USA) tested the V-Pro right here at Intense. He and the owner of Intense have been long industry friends, going back to the early 90's when he owned Fastrax. The owner of Intense, Kent, who was on Team RX-7 with Adam Saruwatari (this name should be familiar to you, given your affiliation with Pettit and RX-7's in general) and Jon were great friends. (Adam and Kent are still best friends to this day). Once the V-Pro was released to the public we installed and tuned a G35 coupe with a GReddy TT. It was the first turbo kit and V-Pro we installed on a VQ based car. The car put down 410whp @ 8psi, very efficient. At this time we were still neck deep in 2jz based cars and couldn't clear enough projects to get into the VQ world, but we knew these platforms had more potential than 2jz based cars and that's where we wanted to go.

Parallel to us, at this same time, Jason, while still at AEM, was tuning Steph Papadakis's AEM NSX-based RWD Civic, which became the quickest/fastest RWD import in the world. Almost simultaneously he was tuning several other teams world record breaking cars, including Bullish Racing, Scranton Brothers, and John Shepherd (as well as a few others which I'm not at liberty to discuss publicly). The engine management systems he was tuning weren't limited to AEM either -- he was tuning V-Pro, Motec, Autronic, Power FC as well. Why he left AEM is his business. However, (and it's no mystery) it is a widely known finding that AEM's EMS quality control started going down hill. At the same time, Jason and all except 1 of the software engineers quit.

Jason sold his house in Cali and moved to AZ. His children were getting older and he wanted to get out of L.A, so he bought a nice home in an affluent neighborhood and started his business relationship with Mototron. Having at this point in his career, close to 20 years tuning and great success at AEM (and private consulting/tuning), he wanted something to call his own. Our geographic proximity to him was mutually beneficial, as he could develop systems, r&d, and allow the owner of Intense to focus on the business side of things here instead of tuning

Over the past couple of years Jason has worked countless hours here and at home to develop these systems for not only VQ based cars, but also Supra, Viper, S-chassis, and several others in the works. His efforts paid off immediately with Saad's Supra which went 8.97@157. The first built VQ that we did the ProEFI on (last summer) is still the world record holder for stock crank, stock sleeved VQ35de at 906whp and is in our G35 coupe, which is the world's quickest & fastest G35 coupe -- 11.00@127. Since then (well over a year now) the ProEFI 48 boxes have been installed and tuned on countless VQ based cars here and around the country.

Getting around to the point.. you asked if we would tune with another engine management if requested of us by our client. Maybe, but we look at our work history as a doctorate, much like a professional in the medical field looks at their tenure. When a client comes to us with a project we advise THEM what the best course will be to take -- the same as when I went to Dr. Spetzler -- he advised me of the best course to take and I respected and heeded it. We view our abilities and achievements in the same light, now having a collective tenure of over 70 years of professional experience tuning and building cars (whether street cars or full blown 6-second drag cars). Our project customers, given that they are for the most part professionals in their own right, have generally done their research on us and our success, and at their initial consultation the conversation is generally one in which our advice is the direction in which the project goes.

Hope this answers your question, Doctor.

Darren

I tried being very patient and hoping we could make this work.

I am sorry that you had issues with your ProEFI system. I can tell you that I just installed and tuned 3 systems in the past week and all drive flawlessly. They start, idle, run exactly like stock. The amount of help I have received from Jason and the crew at ProEFI has been second to none. All I can say is that any system is only as good as the tuner. Mark at turbo trix is a great tuner however I understand that yours was the first system that he installed. I am confident that as he becomes more familiar with the system, problems like you had will end.

Mil-Spec Paint??? LOL

How can you say that these units are outdated? They offer more features than any other stand alone system available!! A factory type ECU HAS to be completely reliable and offer more engine protection than an aftermarket unit. Factories do not want ANY ECU failures or engine damage resulting from an ECU issue!!

Here is a copy of a post that our customer made about his ProEFI:

First off, THANK YOU SOUND PERFORMANCE
Thank you Chris, Larry, Vince, Tim, and the rest of the team........

They have converted my '04 G35 6mt coupe into a terror, and I couldn't be happier.

Today Larry finished the tuning to let me break in the motor...

Now warning this was done with stock heads, stock cams and through the STOCK Y-PIPE, STOCK MID-PIPE, STOCK MUFFLER (the exhaust is just for the engine break-in, don't worry it'll be changed)

After the break-in and new exhaust we'll be turning up the boost on both pump-gas and E85 so stay tuned in the next couple weeks, and carefull what stock looking G35's in chicago you roll up on.

@ 9psi the car made:
393rwhp
402rwtq

And oh, the car drives Exactly like stock. Just faster.
The Pro-EFI is quite impressive. The car responds just like stock, no misses, or bumps, or delays.

yes mil spec paint. Motec is ultra reliable and the tuner can create warning lights and failsafes. a motec ecu will do whatever you tell it to.

ok not out dated, but not the latest in motorsport ecu hardware/technology.
so were are these companies going wrong?

No...the tuner can NOT set up whatever failsafes you want. You can put in a fuel pressure compensation (if you go through and set it all up), you can even set it up to trigger a light under a certain pressure...this is true. You can NOT however set it up to ignore those tables and adjustments if the sensor fails open or shorted.... it will go to the bottom or top of that compensation table and sit...constantly adjusting the fuel comp or and triggering a light telling you that you are low on pressure. It is NOT a fail SAFE.

So...I went to their site...don't see anything that they are doig that the ProEFI isn't... They don't list their processor speed...so who knows if it is faster or not. Since motec is slower...i'll go ahead and assume that pactel is as well.
