Is resetting the ECU enough to reset out of limp mode? If it is just pull neg battery cable for a bit (30min is plenty). But not sure if thats enough for limp mode.
Thanks for the assist.

I did some searching and came up with the same fix. I texted Frank to confirm and he said to just cycle the key within 10 seconds........ no more limp mode . Just warmed it up to operating temp and put it back under the blankets again. Ok back to the new stuff.

Default Parts In - Parts Out

It was such a nice day out today I figured it was time to open up the boxes from Z1motorsports. I needed to dig out the manifolds and down pipes (possibly the wastegate pipes as well) and get them ready to send off to Jet-Hot. Bryan@Z1 recommended not doing the turbine housing because it will void the warranty. A few pics:

My Build: The Good, The Bad & The Progress-dsc03994.jpg - Each part was bubble wrapped and then foam wrapped as well - very nice!

My Build: The Good, The Bad & The Progress-dsc03995.jpg My Build: The Good, The Bad & The Progress-dsc03997.jpg - Huge pipes

Nice welds!!! and the manifold.

My Build: The Good, The Bad & The Progress-dsc03998.jpg My Build: The Good, The Bad & The Progress-dsc03996.jpg

A thank you to some of the people that helped me with the Jet-Hot questions: bryan@z1, thawk408, DaveFunction2ND, alberto, hill -

http://www.jet-hot.com/headercoatings.html

I will be getting the Jet-Hot 2000 coating, they do not offer colors anymore, so I guess black will be the color. It seems like a shame to cover the polished pipes, but I think it will hold up better than header wrap in the long term and it is supposed to reduce temps. I called Jet-Hot and confirmed that they can spray the parts on the outside only rather than dip them so I can pick and choose which sufaces get coated, similar to powder coating.

Got one small piece of the puzzle done today as well. I purchased a set of clear front reflectors from robbinsj for the new Stillen fascia - $25

I spoke with Frank this morning and the bearings should be in any day, so assembly is just around the corner. Still waiting on the heads from Head Games, but should be this week as well. I used to read other threads and see guys down for a build for months and couldn't understand why, now I know. It takes a lot of effort and planning to get all the pieces and shops lined up so that it all can come together, if one shop misses a delivery date it can get you backed up with all the other work you need because you can miss your original window to have the work done at another shop. I keep reminding myself to be patient and not rush.

Also, I have put my current setup up for sale - please click the link in my sig and get yourself some Christmas joy!!

Default Off to Jet-Hot

I spoke with Gus at Jet-Hot today and set things up to ship my manifolds, down pipes and wastegate pipes to them for coating. I chose the 2000 coating in black (they only have black or grey now) and am hoping that this will eliminate the need for heat wrap.

I was very specific with Gus over the phone that I did not want certain parts of the manifolds and piping coated and said I would tape off the areas prior to shipment so there would be no confusion. I also explained that I did not want the parts dipped since I only want the outsides coated, not the insides. Gus assures me this will be no problem - we will see. I even sent written instructions in the box to not coat the taped areas.

Anyhow, it took a few hours to tape and package the pieces, but I took a bunch of pics, so here they are:

I went to both Lowes and Home Depot and could not find anything to plug the O2 bung holes. I ended up getting 5/8" button caps and just spreading the teeth out a bit to make the fit snug, the I taped them off just to be sure:

I just called Jet-Hot again (3 times in 3 days) to make sure they coat my parts correctly. I was connected to the customer service guy at the plant in Oklahoma where they do the 2000 coating, his name is Steve, he spent several minutes going over exactly what I sent and how I want it coated. At this point I know I'm being a complete freak, but I just want it done right the first time.

Cost of shipping - $71.51 UPS Ground with 1K in insurance

Pricing for coating is only an estimate right now, but will be at least $400. Turn time estimate - 2 weeks from arrival date of 12/29.

Thumbs up

I like what you're doing here.

I'm also getting the hot side of my turbo kit Jet Hot coated. It's a prudent and worthy pre-installation mod IMO. I'm surprised that more guys don't do this with their builds.

Thanks Rude - I got some varying opinions on the coating, but the overall concensus is that it is good, although somewhat costly.

I just remembered something, when I opened my kit I noticed that the intercooler outlet hose was black and not blue. I have a bit of a color theme going on here and would like to avoid the black hose if possible. I PM'ed Bryan at Z1motorsports and he said they do not stock the part. He is looking into what it will take to get the blue one shipped from Austrailia. If anyone knows where I can get a blue hose or wants to trade me their blue hose from an APS kit for the brand new black one I have send me a PM.

One other update. I noticed after opening the APS kit that there were no instructions in the boxes. I PM'ed bryan@Z1 again and he directed me to the APS website where they are available for download. When I started comparing my parts to the pics they did not match up and I began freaking out a bit and sending PM's (sorry bryan) .

As it turns out, the new APS TT tuner kits have be revised to include the manifolds, down pipes and wastegate pipes from the Extreme Kit . All my parts matched up with the pics in the directions for the TT Extreme. A small amount of unexpected win in my day!

Default Blue LEDs - FTW!!

One of the very first mods I had done to my Z was a full blue LED mod. I was not a huge fan of the factory orange and there was a member, Acree, who was doing this and other similar mods. Having just gotten my car, I wasn't very comfortable trying to disassemble it to send the parts out for the conversion, so I ended up flying Acree up from Texas to do the mods for me.

I decided on pearl white gauge faces with blue numbers. The gauges turn black with blue numbers at night when the lights are on. Acree did all the dash LEDs as well as the HVAC controls and the door controls. This mod was crazy labor intense and very technical, but Acree did a perfect job!! Acree has since gone back to school full time and is not doing this mod anymore to the best of my knowledge, but there was another member offering this service, however I cannot speak for his quality of work.

Gauges can be purchased here: http://www.blackcatcustom.com/

Default A Mini-Baller Mod

So I figured since I brought Acree to town, I may as well make the most of his services and get one more special mod done. Acree was able to have the remote unit from my Valentine V1 radar detector mounted inside of my homelink mirror. We then mounted the V1 behind the passengers seat attached to the headliner. This is totally stealth because you cannot see the detector from behind the car and it is hard wired to turn on/off with the car.

I took it a step further by having Acree customize the LEDs in the V1 remote to match the color scheme of my Z. He converted the arrows to blue and did a green/yellow/red scheme for the threat warning as well as giving different colors to each type of radar. Just for good measure he also converted the LED in the homelink mirror to blue as well, I think its normally green. He also mounted the mute button to the rear of the mirror.

Sorry the pics are slightly blurry, but I had to cycle the key and take the pic quickly.

Valentine V1 - $399.00
Valentine Remote - $39.00
Homelink Mirror off ebay - $80.00
LEDs, Gauges & Labor (excluding airfare) - $1000.00

BTW - Shortblock assembly begins tomorrow -

If the motor had been functional, it would have been a good value. Once the teardown started I just figured I would go all out and get everything done that I wanted. The motor was never supoosed to be powdercoated, but when it showed up painted navy blue with spray paint something had to be done.
