This new motor should be nice!!! I think Larry went the right way in choosing a true engine machinist to machine and build the short block.
Did he get his motor back? Last I heard the shop has a 2-3 month waiting list. The time sucks, but they really are a top notch shop and worth the wait.

With racing season in full swing, most of the well known engine builders get backed WAY UP with the their good customers' motors and backup motors. Jet did get his engine back already though.

hmm, could that have been the cause of his crankcase ventilation issues?

i don't think that was the issue. there may have been other contributing factors, but we found a leaking turbo seal upon teardown. That was the major cause for the oil in the piping.

The motor was inspected when it was tore down and there was really no solid explanation on why the motor didn't last. GTM built the engine correctly. There were no issues there. The engine showed no signs of detonation. But there was a strange glazing and bronze coloration on the cylinder walls. My machinist said it looks like the motor might have been run lean causing overheating. The pistons show no damage at all.

I have the motor back now and will be putting it all together as soon as I get my GTM turbo kit which should be here shortly.

I would have no hesitation getting another short block from GTM. But I decided to save time and money on the shipping of the engine back and forth cross country and use a local machinist.

I know with all my problems over the last 4 years has made Quadcam weary of the shops I have done business with. To some degree he is correct. But GTM is not one of those shops on my **** list. Sam has offered alot of help not because of guilt over any of this, but because he knows I really need the help to get the car back together and reliable for what I want to do with it. He's the only one that stepped up and offered to help me. I have spent over 60K on parts and labor in the last 4 years. Some people look at me as a piggy bank. But at this point my car funds are exhausted and I am out of work. I'm not poor, but I could use all the help I can get if I am to keep this car. And I thank Sam for that help.

GTM is good stuff!

Just to clear things up on what I wrote before anyone reads too much into this statement. MY statements have more to do with the design and specs of the Arias ED piston than anything else. I am not a fan of that design or its implementation. I believe Arias even specs a pretty healthy clearance for these pistons....definately greater than other manufacturers of 2618 alloy pistons. this and other factors lead to the "loose" fitment of these pistons.

This is Jet's thread and I'm going to stop interjecting my opinions to this thread as my opinions in no way represent Jet's thoughts or opinions.

Nice to see your progress Jet, I was just wondering about your status the other day. Sorry, about your job though, that FL economy is in the crapper. Hang in there brother.

Still getting everything together. I should start building the short block on Fri! Lots of pics to follow of the build and the new GTM Turbo kit. I migth be switching over to an FCON as well. Pretty good chance of that.

Hi Larry,

I think you meant you will be building the "long block".

It was great meeting you and your wife at the machine shop. Good luck with the build. I think the surge tank should really help to keep you from running lean in high G turns. I look forward to seeing the results.

Have you decided on where to get the tune?

I am glad you decided to go with a stand alone Larry, I think it is money well spent.

This new setup should be very promising, I have no doubts you will be very happy!

any specific reason that you decided on the FCON instead of the Haltech you mention'd earlier?

I'm happy to see you are going with the F-CON. I think between that, the surge tank, the in-line fuel pump and the water-cooled turbos, things on the track will go much smoother.

My engine parts and clutch are still at the machine shop. I guess Larry is still swamped. Good for him given the economy. Not so good for me. Nonetheless, I know everything will be **** when its complete.

I talked with Roger today and he mentioned that you had spoken. You are in very good hands and he will take very good care of you. His new Mustang Dyno is shipping this week and will be installed and ready for you when you are ready to tune.

Let me know when you go there. It will be another good opportunity to hang out. I suggest we head for Sailfish Marina. Unfortunately, I don't think they have Guinness on tap. Nonetheless, a great place to chill.
