I should not have to avoid shifting into 5th when cold out and the car is warmed up. Ive gotten so used to going 4th to 6th its sad...I do it in the summer too.

Ive heard good things about SMM for the 350z that the ride does not really get that harsh.

You find a kit yet?
still kinda browsing. thinking about scrapping my ball bearing turbo requirement, and just going with a previously loved greddy kit. I figure. easier install, cheaper maintenance, external WG's, more money to throw at supporting mods.

I've been stock piling supporting mods for the last 6 months probably (IE aam oil pan spacer, guage accessories, ignition, and fuel mods) and all I really need now is some good twins.

I'll be doing the install in my garage by myself so maybe you and your new bride could stop by point me in the right direction (install wise) if I do go the greddy route. I'll supply the beer, and you can meet my pet wolf

how are you and your wife enjoying the married life?

Depending on the turbo setup you go with, Precision offers waterless bb turbos these days....they are pricey but plumbing becomes much easier.

hmm thats a very interesting proposition. BB turbo that would be compatible with the greddy kit. if they do, if nothing else I could go with a traditional greddy kit and upgrade the turbos to bb turbos down the line if I have a need to. more expensive, but an option none the less

thanks tom

where are your going to find the custom 3 bolt greddy/modified mistu turbine housings to bolt to your manifolds that fit over PTE turbos (or any BB turbo for that matter)?

yeah. thats why I was wondering if they made a turbo compatible with the greddy manifold. I'm not really that affraid of the extra water piping but it just adds more complication to the install. my primary for including the greddy kit in my options is cost. by going with a cheaper kit I can keep the budget of the overall build lower so I can start to save, for when I, inevitably have to build

but i digress and I don't want to jack Chris's thread

right next to a dreamworks SC.

There is a greddy kit on here for 4k shipped, not too bad. you could probably get it lower due to some of the damage to the IC/Pipes ( i have a few spares but not of the ones you would need)

Yeah the supporting mods are killer.

Im looking into the AAM 3" dual exhaust and still looking for an oil cooler/upgraded clutch pivot ball.

Alex got my transmission delivered (thanks man!) and says it looks good so I will have a CD009 going in.

I dont know if I will have too much to add to your install since were doing mine out of the car. It is going to make things easier. We can make sure bolts are tightened and flanges are flush.

One thing I will say is using the stock manifold studs on the passenger side will require on to be ground down a bit. No biggie.

Looking forward to the rest of my install to get it ready to swap. Still have a lot of work left to do. Itll be nice mounting the wastegates and downpipes out of the car.

i have the aam 3" td and aam 3" downpipes. they sound good. also i pieced together an oil cooler (have a spare cooler here, just needs lines if youd want), and picked up the clutch pivot ball from z1 i believe, but be careful, theres 2 different types of cpb's for the cd008/cd009. i believe the one for my cd009 was shorter.

your going to have a hard time getting the motor back in with the 3" downpipes, might have to take off the subframe, etc and come up from the bottom. me and eltness know all about that lol. btw enjoy your motor! ryans a good guy and literally has no miles on that motor, and i wanna see what it does.

look at my oil cooler thread. lots of good info and you can get a full huge oil cooler setup for 200$ from racerpartswholesale.

also, i never upgraded my clutch pivot and use a heavy os giken twin disk for a year now with no issues. even still, clutch pivot is 30$ or so from importpartspro.com

Update:

Work performed on August 14th:
Installed Timing chain covers back. Painted them redline red.
Installed new valve covers, painted wrinkle black. (old gloss black ones will be for sale). Used new valve cover gaskets as well.
New spark plugs
Installed some couplers onto turbos
Installed JWT flywheel, southbend clutch and new release bearing on transmission.
Dropped the motor to the ground and installed my new cd009 tranny(low mileage used, but new to me)
Mocked up the AAM downpipes and dump tubes. Was freaking out at first since there was now way the drivers side pipe would fit with the wastegate mounted like it would be in a normal greddy install. I dont think I have seen too many pictures of the AAM pipes installed and no instructions were included...or bolts or gaskets...damn $600 pipes.

Pics:

Next update will be for the swap! So excite. Special thanks to Alex (hotrodg35) for his continued help. this project would be nowhere without him.

still got more parts to order! Never ending project.

That's awesome you get to do that. It's much more satisfying knowing you did some of the work. Good luck with the swap.

^yeah and after seeing how the kit was originally installed by a shop it makes me 100x more happy that i didnt goto one. 5 holes were all messed up and the threads had to be chased with a tap. Exhaust leaks were evident on the old gaskets too.

My buddy james has the evo tt exhaust and open dumps....sounds sick. I really want his exhaust. APS or AAM 3" will suffice i suppose.

i cut my aam downpipes, and added a vband. getting the motor in and out with the downpipes on is impossible without removing the subframe. build looks like its coming along nice, my motors about ready to go back in.

ryan, hows yours comin along??

Tom
noob question: Some turbo kits like PE and HKS setups (unsure about jwt) use Garett BB turbos with only oil lines included, but water lines can be purchased and installed. While other kits like GTM and APS include water lines from the get go.

Is it always recommended to install water lines for longevity/reliability of ball bearing turbos even if the kit does not come with them, but can accommodate them if sourced and installed?

It surely wouldn't hurt if there are already provisions for water lines.

Are you asking me about longblock? No I have not sold mine as its still running in the car.
