Vortech Blower Rattle-Not Just Gear Noise

The first 100 miles or so was fine, just gear noise at idle.
Now at 250 miles it is Rattling and getting louder.
Anybody have this problem?

If you have a Vortech Blower, what does it sound like?

Thanks! Tim

I listened to this over the phone and it seems to be standard gear noise. I believe he is going to be sending in his supercharger for us to take a look at. Maybe some of you can post up vids of your motor for him to compare too?

I noticed my rattle got louder after I drove it home. It's back at Elite getting an oil leak looked at. I'll pick it up next week and see if it gets worse.

Everything else seems fine... just the low rpm rattle...

Stuart

I sent you a PM about this, but if it's what I think it is then I had the same sound only at idle that began after a few hundred miles. The metal intake tube that goes into the manifold was rattling against the frame of the car near where the top of the front strut is mounted. In the photo below you'll see that I temporarily wedged a piece of cream colored foam into the spot that was rattling.

Here's an audio/video clip that shows the normal whirring noise. Note that even when I had the rattle issue it could not be heard outside the car. Only inside the car--and only really from the driver seat.

The rattling on my blower is definately coming from inside the blower itself. My first blower rattled even above idle and made a very loud clicking noise. I got a replacement and my new one is a little better but still makes some noises.

My vortech blower does the same. I"ve since tightened the belt (small cog belt) and it's not as apparent as it was.

I tightened the belt, most of the rattle is gone.

There was not any pipes hitting anywhere. (Zimbo)

Allthough is runs well, It's not 412Hp at the crank, more like
375Hp.

The belt is not to tight, it's snuge like required, but still getting wear on the sides of the belt.

How did you determine 375 at the crank? What are the at-the-wheel numbers?!

Do you have a dyno you can post showing A/F ratios across the RPM band?

Out of curiousity. Does the blower itself get pretty damn hot?

From the vid file it seems like the blower is a noisy little bastard!

I thought it was a SQ model......ie...Hhhhuuuussssshhhhhhh ;D.

Anyone know the noise level of the unit? Can it be heard in the car? If anything thats why i'm not going for the ATI.... noisy bugger that one.

I've noticed that any video/audio file amplifies audio noises and misinforms everyone. I can't even see why people want to hear exhaust clips as they never sound like they do in person. It's almost impossible to duplicate the human ear system using computer speakers and a 1" microphone on some video camera... I've had so many people tell me in person that my vortech is the quietest s/c they've ever heard (centrifugal of course).

Yes, the blower get very hot.

As far as the sound, When your crusing at 50mph + its not bad at all, infact you can bearly here it. But at low speeds going thru the gears very easy-normal street driving its fairly loud. You have the high pitched whissle of the blower, but the loudest sound comes from the blow-off valve.

Oh yeah. And for those of you from the FI world. Best way to describe it is very similar to a Supra with BPU with HKS super sequential blow off valve. sounds very similar to that.

Pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
