Default What is the bottom line on intakes?

I'd like to know which intake to put in my car? Do we have a definitive answer or is it just as subjective as it appears to be from reading many posts?

It's really up to you...I've heard some bad things about the AEM sucking in water and losing power but other than that all others seem to be pretty much equal.

The best intake for the price/performance is JWT.

Well if you dont care too much about name brands and such, i dont know how others feel about this but this is what i did and im quite happy. I purchased a polished 30 degree bent tube and bought an adapter and a filter, also a breather and called it a day for about 60 bucks.

I have heard that the factory intake is very well designed and other intakes will take away low end. Is this true?

It is true about the design. However, despite a "good" design you will gain (whether it be 1 or 1million) some horse power from any aftermarket intake. You will probably lose some low end torque but make up for it else where. You will see an improvement with top end power (which matters most to me).

So lets say for a moment that every aftermarket intake for the Z made no power, id still waste my money and buy something to replace all that plastic.

JWT popcharger is the best when you look at all aspects! plain and simple! this cannot be argued!!!

best price, street legal, best sound, arguably best gain, no hydrolock worries, easiest install by far, easiest to clean, ect!!!!!!

Best bang for the buck= JWT popcharger or Stillen air box.

It is subjective and you have to ask yourself what "you" want.

I wanted something that was easy to change, gave me good power, no heatsoak, and wouldn't possibly ingest water. So I created a hybrid between the OEM stock box and the JWT. Did it take some time to design, make and install...yes. Would I recommend this route...no. It gave "me" what I wanted and it was economical to build.
