Default Suggestions on Exhaust install

I am buying the Borla TD and want to install it myself. I don't have a lift or a personal shop that I use. Any recommendation on how to jack it up. Ramps, jacks, etc. ? Any one else do it by themselves with out the use of a garage?

Any suggestions would be appreciated so I can get prepared.

The subject of installing a cat-back exhaust has been addressed on several threads including:

I have looked at several threads and I still can't find any saying what to use besides a lift. I've looked at your thread, and still no help. I would like to do it myself. Is this a possibility with out a lift.

Just need a simple answer. Thanks

you can use a jack and jack stands...look at this thread for a pic with stand placements and jacking points.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ht=jack+stands

take your time and you should be fine...use tons of wd40...anything else just ask im sure someone will chime in...as for me i didnt have a ramp so i found some boards that where about 1 inch 1/2 thick and drove the car up on them then jacked the car up...hope this helps ya

goodluck

There must be a shop somewhere where you live that will do the install. My dealer did my Borla TD install and charged one (1) hour labor. I assisted and it was done in 35 minutes. The cost of the tools, jacks and stands will cost more than having a shop do the install. I can appreciate you wanting to do the install, but if not done right, on a lift, expect to have problems (i.e. a squeak here, clang there or possible leak).

When I installed my Injen (and then removed it and installed it on another Z) and Nismo systems. I used Rhino ramps on the back wheels and reached in from the sides to get the front stuff. Both of these systems though only had a few parts.

For the Borla, it might be a lot easier to put the car on ramps in front and then jack up the back (or jack up all four) because of getting at the H pipe and the time you will spend under there massaging the parts into place. If you don't have ramps or a jack and stands, buying all that stuff might cost more than having someone else bolt it on for you.

Another option is to find someone else in your area who has this stuff and is willing to help you out, offer to supply the beer and pizza and you can usually get about 3 to 6 hours worth of labor out of them (ok, maybe 2 hours of labor that takes 6 hours because of all the story telling and shooting the breeze).

Chris

NOTE: The jack in the trunk is for emergency use only, a few people have already reported them collapsing like a cheap chair under load.

NOTE: Always use jack stands when working under a car, any jack can fail.

Oh yeah, one other thing, as I said, I have not done a Borla on the Z but on my Minis I use exhaust paste at the slip joints to keep them from leaking and seizing (so it comes apart easy when needed) that I buy at the local Kragen.
