Default helix test pipes - pre install

yeah... so i'm installing test pipes on my 04.5 this weekend... never installed tp's before but hopefully it shouldn't be too big of a deal...

I've got impact wrenches... plenty of other tools.... I'll pick up some PB Blaster tomorrow.... and a couple packages of non foulers....

any tips or suggestions before I begin Saturday morning????

ok... I've got all of the above.. but I'm a little bit irritated...

these dumbass testpipes position the o2 sensor on the passenger side downward... stock is up an in... with the nonfoulers in I doubt I can clear my pit backing out once everything is installed..... and that just happens to be the cat that has a bunch of scrapes from bottoming out....

I'm reconsidering even installing these.....

Why again do people recommend these?

Helix test pipes have been on the market for ever, many people have them and no one had really complained about the position of the O 2 sensor. Try one on and see OR donate them to me. GL w/ the install.

I think this thread pretty much sums it up....

https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/339008-02-sensor-problem.html

I may go ahead and install them... but I probably won't recommend these to anyone...

Well, try to research other test pips and sell these to someone as long as you get your moneys worth. GL and keep us posted.

....i haven't done the driver side yet... wanted to see how the passenger side was going to work out....

I got all the bolts from underneath with nothing more than an open/closed end wrench and a socket wrench (used an extension on one bolt)... I was really surprised how easy the bolts came off (relatively speaking).... car has been a daily driver in 4 salty *** winters.... it was harder to get the wrench on the nut than it was to actually break it loose... the bolt that was hardest to reach (the one you can't see) I couldn't soak in pbblaster and it was probably the easiest one to get off... I actually had the most problems with the Y pipe bolt.... that sucker wouldn't budge and I had all the room in the world... eventually the bolt snapped... no biggie was replacing it anyway....

That's not right. The oxygen sensors should point up not down.

So everything is done.... the day I installed the test pipes was just a shitty day altogether...

A: I was not happy about the o2 sensor bung. It's not a matter of IF this will break, it's WHEN it breaks. Shitty design FTMFL.

B: Once everything was installed it sounds horrible. Something is definitely rattling... It sounds like it's coming from the Y pipe or the muffler. On deceleration at 4,200 RPM there is a loud and distinct rattle. You can hear it on acceleration too.. sounds like a fart can deluxe. Definitely not rasp.

C: The exhaust mounting bracket doesn't line up with the holes in the test pipes, so I had to leave it off. Now something else will probably break.

D: I got summoned for jury duty.

E: Me and my friend were cruising around, I was following him, we both get pulled over and ticketed $172 for an illegal U turn.

That about sums it up.

But besides those things that you mentioned everything was OK?
