No problem with cats in that location. This merge collector actually sits a little higher off the ground than the Nismo or stock Y pipe.
The primaries are angled up slightly to the collector where they then level out. You may be able to see it in the pictures.
I've seen how a lot of Y pipes and various exhaust systems get ground up flex lines or resonators from going over speed bumps or from being lowered.
Raising the collector an extra 3/4" will help aleviate a lot of that problem.

I wouldn't bother with it if that's all you intended to do. Its not untill you have a fully modified exhaust that it is worth considering.
Optimizing the collector merge point is a dyno subtlty that also feels good on the throttle response. Its not MREV2 like gains.
The XYZ pipe outlet is 3". The stock midpipe is 2.5".
The sudden contraction from 3" to 2.5" would likely negate any gains made.

And yes, the XYZ is available with just a straight pipe. That will infact be the baseline configuration.
The single exhaust uses 3" tubing. 3" is fully adequate for all NA and even modest boost Z's.
And 3" tubing does not compromise TQ in any way. TQ is determined by the primary tubes of the collector and how the gasses are merged.
I've tested it all on the dyno. You can completely remove the exhaust system behind the Y pipe and it will make "zero" difference on TQ or area under the curve.
The potential for exhaust scavenging after the end of the merge collector module is negligible.
The only thing to do after the Y pipe section is to minimize pressure drop.
