Default Latest & greatest exhaust and ecu?

Hi Fella's, I'm still driving my 2003 Roadster and am a bit bored and wanna spice things up a bit I don't have any engine mods done apart from K&N Typhoon intake (if you would call that a mod). So I'm basically looking for peoples opinions on the best exhaust and ecu for my application.

Edit: I should probably go into a bit more as to what I'd like to see in the exhaust. Basically after a nice note on idle, no drone in the cabin, and when I take off, I'd like for people to hear it when I take off but not an annoyingly loud noise that you get from a lot of noob ricers. Regarding ECU just a good quality solution that will compliment the setup and increase power a little.

Get on youtube and look for sound clips if you're just looking for a good exhaust note. Not everyones opinion will be the same as yours. theres also a sound clip section in our forum, check that out

Are there any general popular picks for the exhausts?

also with the uprev, is this an ecu I get shipped here to Australia and plug and play? Or is it more involved than that. Looking for an easy but effective solution.

Depends how much you want to spend. Look into the invidia gemini, motordyne shockwave, agency power etc. im guessing shipping to you will be expensive, so don't settle for less than what you are looking for. Amuse top speed r1 sounds pretty mean imo

The Uprev is just a cable that is shipped to you. After that connect it to a laptop and reflash the factory ECU. So yes plug and play in a sense.

Another popular pick is the HKS exhaust.

i think you'dd like cobb accessport, nismo, and a plenum spacer based on
what you've said. all told you'll only spend $1500USD retail or less used.

Go with the hks or agency power cause they both sound nice and not ricey like you prefer. Uprev should be sufficient to tune your ecu.

So let me get this straight, this uprev thing is simply a cable that you plug from the car into say a laptop? If that's the case then you need software to do the tuning?

Also regarding exhausts, I remember the Stillen back in the day was popular, from memory it had the highest gains? What's the latest opinions of this exhaust?

yes pretty much. it's recommended you go to a licensed tuner. check out the site http://www.uprev.com/products.php

I couldn't disagree more, but OP, it's up to you to choose, OP.

Research and maybe reach out to some of the vendors on here. Once you find a vendor on here that you like and feel that you can trust, I would work with them. Individuals on here are going to be fairly opinionated towards whatever products they use and support.

Default UpRev Tuned ECU Differences & Basic Information

I thought that you were saying that you wouldn't recommend the UpRev tune. My misunderstanding. I now realize that you were talking about the exhaust. The text that you quoted included both items.

I will agree with you on the Stillen Exhaust, but I have nothing but good things to say about the UpRev tune.

That's a pic of the motordyne exhaust if I'm not wrong. Which model is the best one? (from the cat back). Is this the really loud as **** one??

Default Looking for Fast, Tone, or Volume?

Any dual with wider pipes and less restriction is going to be louder than stock. The wider the pipe, the more airflow. Give it two pipes, and you double the airflow. More airflow and less restriction = louder.

The ones that have additional resonator tubes on them like the HKS & Motordyne don't really make it any quieter, but they will do a good job of reducing certain frequencies of sound to make the drone not as annoying at certain RPM ranges.

Generally, I've found that: Fast = lots of unrestricted flow = loud
But: Loud ≠ Fast (Dem Honda Boyz with Fart Cannons)

If you're looking to go fast, you learn to not worry about loud.
If you're looking for a certain sound/tone, listen to the YouTube clips.
If you're looking for a certain volume, go visit your local Z club and hear some other member's cars. Also, make sure you know what other breather mods they have because intake, plenum, headers, and test pipes all have an impact on the volume.

Default Tame for DD = Borla TD, Nismo

Check the sound clips of the Nismo and the Borla. They are very similar to stock at normal driving, but a little more robust when you do some spirited driving and go to WOT(wide open throttle). You could also consider going with high flow cats or test pipes on the stock to make it sound a little meaner (and this is much less money than buying the whole catback exhaust).

You should be able to find sound clips on YouTube with some simple searching.

Since you're a Roadster owner also, it's going to be important that you pick something that you'll be happy hearing. It's much more noticable to us than the coupes when we're riding around with the top down. I didn't want to spend the money on a whole exhaust and not be happy afterwards. I wanted to hear it in real life vs YouTube, so I went to my local Z gatherings and to ZDayz before I decided on the right intake, header, cat, & exhaust for me - since each of these items has some effect on the sound.

Borla+art pipes make a nice combination of power and quietness. Set up is very quiet at idle and cruise, but gets mean at WOT with an awesome tone to it, zero rasp. I use my bluetooth headset while driving and I can honestly say that this combo would give u no problem while talking on the phone.
