The batt on my miata drained and wouldn't start after some aholes broke into it and left the door and interior lights on
Instead asking for a jump start, could anyone tell me the correct method to do a rolling start on a manual tranny vehicle?
TIA

Have a friend get behind your car to push or start off on an incline. Put car in 1st gear, depress clutch and let car pick up some speed then take foot off clutch. If and when engine fires, give it some accelerator and you're good to go. If you have to come to a stop depress clutch and give it a little throttle while ideling to prevent stalling.
you shouldnt need much speed to do it, just make sure the key is in the ON position and have the car in first gear, clutch in, rolling at probably 5-10 mph and depress the clutch
When you have to you have to. My battery died for good at Zdays this year, it was completely gone and no place to buy one, so luckily lots of hills there. I did it in 2nd gear tried to get enough speed and let the clutch out as mentioned. I prefer 2nd gear as it is not as much of a jolt when you let the clutch out.
yeah, at certain times we were just forced to do a rolling start instead of paying $$ for AAA guys to do it. I just used up all call services from my current membership years (yeah, it's been a bad year) and the Road Side assistance of my insurance policy does not cover my 2nd vehicle (liability coverage only).
Thanks for the reply guys. This is what I sum up, please tell me if it's wrong:
1. Have someone push the vehicle to 5-10mph. Driver turn the key to "on" position and engage to 1st or 2nd gear while depressing the clutch.
2. Once the car is rolling, let out the clutch while turning the key like normally starting the car.
3. Once the motor have sign of cranking up, depressing the clutch in again and give a little gas to stabilize the idle.
Please let me know if I sum it up wrong. Thanks for the help and I could save some $40 next time.

I actually got AAA memebership with 100 miles free towing. But this is a bad year for me and I used up all the calls quota for this year when I totaled my first Z in March
I am going to buy some jumper cable from a auto parts store to keep it handy when needed.
Thanks everyone for the reply.
