Tire FEATHERING: FYI
Harder compound tire which will take longer to show the abnormal wear - either way the tire will go bad, just not in the same amount of time as the RE04's.
It's not a fix - it's a delay move on NNA's part. Because all the TSB's in the world still can't "FIX" the problem.
So good luck - but don't count on the problem going away just becuase Pilots were put on.

I posted earlier about a possible class action but failed to provide the link to the site:

From 15 USC 2310...
3) One or more warrantors may establish an informal dispute settlement procedure which meets the requirements of the Commission's rules under paragraph (2). If -
(A) a warrantor establishes such a procedure,
(B) such procedure, and its implementation, meets the
requirements of such rules, and
(C) he incorporates in a written warranty a requirement that
the consumer resort to such procedure before pursuing any
legal remedy under this section respecting such warranty, then
(i) the consumer may not commence a civil action (other than
a class action) under subsection (d) of this section unless
he initially resorts to such procedure; and
(ii) a class of consumers may not proceed in a class action
under subsection (d) of this section except to the extent the
court determines necessary to establish the representative
capacity of the named plaintiffs, unless the named plaintiffs
(upon notifying the defendant that they are named plaintiffs
in a class action with respect to a warranty obligation) initially
resort to such procedure. In the case of such a class action
which is brought in a district court of the United States, the
representative capacity of the named plaintiffs shall be
established in the application of rule 23 of the Federal Rules
of Civil Procedure. In any civil action arising out of a warranty
obligation and relating to a matter considered in such a
procedure, any decision in such procedure shall be admissible
in evidence.
In other words, you can't intitiate a class action except as noted here unless you have first submitted to the Manufacturers Certified Program. A better approach is to satisfy your State's Lemon Law threshold as quickly as possible and enter the Certified Program (BBB Autoline), if it exists in your State. You will have a decision in 40 days that is binding on the Manufacturer and not you as opposed to waiting years for some class action.
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer but I could use one right about now.
Had tires replaced and realigned at dealership at approx. 8,500 miles due to feathering. I again have the same exact problem at around 18,000 miles (getting same mileage out of new tires/alignment)..feathering and roaring noise at low speeds and stopping. What do I do now? This is very frustrating.

One possible stumbling block to that class action:

That would be a case involving Nissan's certified program? Do you have a reference? Just curious as the prerequisite for cetifying, at least in Fla, is compliance with 16 CFR 703 and because, obviously, it would have to specifically apply to the Manufacturer's program for the vehicle involved in the class action. In this case, an individual would probably fare much better and in a much shorter period of time with a Lemon Law claim as opposed to a class action provided that window of opportunity has not been closed. The last class action that I was a party to netted about $1.91 for me from Citibank.

Ok some have a problem with complex questions. Let me try again.
Has anyone replaced their Bridgestones with the Michelin Pilots?
If so have you put any miles on them yet?
How are they wearing?
Yes they are a harder rubber compound. They are not quite as grippy as the Bridgestones and the ride seems to be a bit stiffer accompanied by a little more road noise than the new Bridgestones. I also noticed that they dont seem to have as flat of a tread as the Bridgestones so I am hoping there will be less scrub on the inside and outside edge of the tire. Just my .02.

I have Michelin Pilot Sports A/S and really like them. I have not noticed the feathering yet, but like you said they are a harder compound, so it might take longer to appear. I have put about 5k on them so far.

Boomer--my opinion, use it or lose it, I really don't care.

So.......The next day after I got my Z back I noticed my steering wheel was crooked. I left a message with the service manager telling him to call me back I needed to bring the car back in to get this fixed. I took a look at the alignment sheet and noticed they didn't even touch the car until 5:02. I dropped the car off at 9:00am, and when I called to check on things late in the after noon they said the car would be ready at 5:00. They called back and said 5:15 later.
Well, I got no call back yesterday, and then someone else called back today to do a follow up. I'm pissed now b/c the service advisor never called me back. She left me a message telling me how important it is to get all excellent on the survey they will be sending me on the service. I call her back! More pissed now
She answers.....
I told her my steering wheel was crooked after the alignment and she asked if I could bring it in tomorrow and leave it. I said nope. I said that isn't my only problem. What you guys need to do is call Nissan between now and Tuesday when I am bringing it in and get approval to do more then just align my tires. I told her I did not understand why they had my car all day on Wednesday and did not just call Nissan to get the go ahead on the fix instead of doing a rush job at 5 to get the RooooOAAaaaaRing car back to me
. I offered to call NNA for them
She said bring the car in Tuesday and she will make sure all is taken care of
.
Apparently there are no TSB's on '04 tire feathering? So any work done on this has to get approval from NNA.
My fiance said she is going to wait for me in her car while I'm talking to the service advisor..lol..not going to be pretty.
To be continued............

this is kind of a random thought, but at this point anybody who has researched the z and knows of the feathering problem, but buys a Z anyway, then complains about feathering or tries to file a lawsuit... is an idiot. tire feathering has NOT been fixed in 04 Zs. don't buy one if you don't want feathering. buy an s2k or an rx8.

Dealer put new front tires on my wifes 350Z last week. I noticed a big difference with the roar gone. My wife did not notice anything. I think that every owner has the problem but a lot of them don't notice it.
