I have 12,500 miles and took my car into the dealer yesterday for mild tire feathering. They had the car for 24 hours for the feathering issue and an oil change (sounds like a long time).

They said they could not adjust the alignment or swap the tires because they are waiting to hear from Nissan concerning a "campaign" due April 28 to address this issue. May a fix?

I just got off the phone with Nissan Consumer Affairs and was told that the extended alignment warranty is for 2 years/UNLIMITED miles. This makes me very happy since I have 23,800 miles. She assured me that they would continue to replace the tires under that time frame if the problem continues, and that if my dealer gave me any guff about to call her directly from the dealership.

Car has 24,500 miles on it. Front tires began feathering (or at least began to get noisey) at about 11,000 miles. The dealership swapped front tires side to side at 15,000 miles. At about 19,000 they started doing it again. It's in now and they are putting new tires on it. I'm being charged a prorated amount on the tires only($175). Nissan is picking up the rest including aligment to new specs and spin balance. I called Nissan and told them how I felt about having to pay anything at all. They didn't budge. I asked for and got assurance that they believed that the new alignment would solve the feathering problem. We'll see. I'm not going to be so agreeable if they begin to feather again.

Dude, I know the definition of a campaign. And if I didn't I would have consulted a dictionary before disclosing my ignorance on the web.

Further the question I asked was not "what is the definition of a campaign?", rather I asked "wtf is a 'campaign'?"

More specifically, does the word carry any special connotation with respect to addressing technical issues within the automotive industry? For instance, is this particular tire feathering issue being handled any differently within NNA beyond releasing periodic TSBs? Is there a formal "campaign" (which implies a special formalized program) within NNA to come to to a true resolution?

This is a relevant question since g35or350z specifically quoted the word in his post.

Default campaign

Campaign is a term often used in sales and marketing in Japan.

Using the proper English definition to relate meaning to words created in Japan or by Japanese management in this case is a fruitless exercise.

If it is really a "campaign" then they would be contacting all Z owners and requesting they bring their Z's in to be checked and correction/tire replacements made. I doubt that will happen.

Why would you spend sooo much money on fixing a problem Nissan is responsible to fix"?

I currrently have 17.5K miles total on the car. If I could do this all over again....I may not even buy another Z....
I had my fronts replaced at 9400 and again at 19700.

I don't look at it that way. Nissan will now take care of my tire problems for 2 years which for me will be 25K miles. By then some of the other 350Z nuts will have their own fix if Nissan does not already have one. So it may cost me $500-$1000 for some upgrades in a couple of years?? This Z is inexpensive compared to other sports cars I have owned plus it is beautiful and fun to drive. I consider this a cost of "fun" and why get all bent out of shape and ruin my personal enjoyment of such a great car. Life is way to short.

Has anyone experienced a slight jitter in the stearing wheel at freeway speeds?

I had the tireswap and alignment done a few weeks ago and wonder if it is related to the new alginment specks or the tire feathering.

After calling 3 dealers, I settled on $1400. It extends the warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles, and covers virtually everything, even belts & hoses (!) but not TIRES!

No take it back they didn't do it right, or they need to give you new front tires. Mine does not do that.

Could be the balancing is off on the tires.

I am getting the same "jittering" on the expressway from time to time but I have not figured out what it is. The only place I fill it is in the steering wheel.

I had the tire swap and alignment done about 5000 miles back. New tires replaced about 3000 miles back. Feathering is returning on outside of tread now.

It's really strange. Its not an out and out vibration typically associated with wheel balance ( although this might be the cause). It's more like a slight shudder in the resistance in the steering wheel.
