Cool Wildinit

What's Up My Z People , Yeah I'm New To The World, But I Got The Same Dodo. Now I Am Not Real Technical But I Read A Lot. I Know About The Toe In And Wheel Alignment. The Fact Is The Z Cupping Or Feathering Will Not Go Away. This Is A Suspension Defect - Plain And Simple. In My Reading Of Different Car Magazines I Came Across A Long Term Test For The Z. Sorry To Say I Gave The Magzine To A Friend To Read In Excange For The Fast And Furious Book. Well My Son Got A Hold Of The Book I Borrowed And It Disapper. I Later Found The Book Under His Bed, But My Freind Died In A Motorcycle Accident Before I Could Make The Exchange Again. I Am Currently Narrowing Down My Search For This Article. Anyway, The Article Stated That The 'z' Had The Same Problem Of Inside Tire Wear And Their Solution Was To Replace The Tires And Install A Rightside Converter Bar. Now I Never Heard Of A Rightside Converter Bar But The Technician Stated That This Would Solve The Problem, And It Would Be Under Dealer Warranty. I Also Questioned A Nissan Dealer Mechanic Who Confirmed That He Had Heard Of Such A Part. Now I Am Currently Trying To Get Nissan To Install This Item On My Z. But I Need That Magazine To Make My Case. Hey, I Know It's Late In The Game But I Just Found Your World And I Have Until December 20th Before I Am Out Of The Running . (i Thought It Was Just Cheap Azz Tires.) Well Holler Back Like We Say In The Windy City. Mean While I'll Still Be Wild-in-it.

Well Holler Back Like We Say In The Windy City.
Well said WILDINIT.
Sounds like everyone else is just rolling over and playing dead. C'mon people. Why do you think there was a 2nd TSB issued? Because we called Nissan's bluff on the 1st TSB. Actually, we proved they bluffed. Proof is in the numbers; number of dissatissfied customers that is. All who complained did so with physical and audible evidence in the form of severe tire feathering/cupping (whatever you want to call it) and the so obvious deafening tire roar. The evidence was overwhelming. When I first complained they blamed it on my driving style. But we all kept the pressure on, we called the corporate Nissan customer service numbers, we filed complaints, word was starting to leak into the media; then, tada..... TSB#2.

Yes, it is a delay tactic. The fact that they redesigned the tire to be extra resistant to feathering/cupping makes it so blatantly obvious they are covering up the real problem. I think this move will eventually bite them in the a$$.

This is why it is so important for those Z owners to come forward with results of this latest fix; but only if they have driven at least the 10,000 kms or so when the symptoms typically began to surface from our past experiences. It may take longer this time with the new tire, but I'm sure it will eventually rear it's ugly head. We only need 1 or 2 confirmed cases, then we call their bluff again and put some real pressure on them. Nissan has revised their alignment specs twice. 3rd strike and they're out. We just need some hard proof before our extended warrantees run out. Mine runs out April 2005.

whew... sorry, I couldn't stop myself.

I'm Just Curious About What Type Of Settlement You Got Thaddes. I Got A O3 Perforamance And I've Gone Thru 3 Tires . I Bought Them Used Because I Knew It Was A Problem Somewhere. Now I Need The Real Deal. Thats Why I'm Trying To Put Pressure On Nissan For This Rightside Converter Bar. I Hope There Is A Solution For Us All. If Not, I've Got To Stock Up On 18's, Cause I'm Not Getting Rid Of My Z. It's Just 2 Damnn Sweet. Next Year The Veilside Body Kit Will Be My Change Of Clothes. Hey, Mi So Fast,, The 350 And G35 Are The Same Car. Hey Dav Z, Thanks For The Holla Back. Let's Flow With The Info. Oh Yeah, Does Anybody Have A Problem With Oil Consumption? Well, Holla Back

What you maybe thinking of is a compression rod. There was a TSB on it that it had to be replaced to solve the problem in some Z's pulling to the right. Not sure if it has anything to do with tire feathering.

WILDINIT, NNA bought back the '03 which left me with some cash. I did not receive full purchase price but did receive what I considered a resonable price for the 2.5 years I had it. I did this through an attorney.

If you want further detail PM me and I will provide.

I can't believe this is still going on. I have had my Z since 03 and ever since then I have had the issues.. got it fixed.. changed rims/tires shortly after/ and then did the suspension. EVEN with my new JIC suspension on there the cupping occurs. I have no course of action nor did I plan on further pressing the issue to the dealership. Of course my Z has had almost all of the TSB's noted and the dealership near my has fixed all of the issues or tried without any fuss.

What ever the plan may be that comes from this thread or another, I will be down to help follow and deal through the best that I can. Until then.. I just keep replacing the tires, since I have to replace the rears just as fast

Question feathering fixed on 2006??

I just joined my 350z.com last week. Great info and very helpful people. I used to have a 280z growing up. Has the feathering issue been sloved on the 2005 or 2006 Z?
Thanks
Dan

Had the issue with my 2003 Z, got two new sets of fronts from the dealer at 4K and 10K miles. Last set was still the old style tire and they did another alignment. I now have 20K miles on my Z and the tires are wearing perfect, which is amazing to me since you can't rotate them. I wish I understood what happened the last time around since the alignment they did was again to Nissan spec's but it worked.

I have a 2004ZR Enthusiast. Had my front's replaced under the TSB in August with 28000 miles on it. Just had my car inspected by an independent mechanic and was told the fronts are already wearing abnormally, not to mention the other issues he brought up with my car.

Default Right Front Compression Rod

Well I'm Back Again . I Finally Found The Magazine I Had Been Searching For ,went To The Libary And Five Minutes Later It's In My Hand. It Was Nov 03 Issue Of Road And Track{a Must Have Issue}. Anyway, they Tested The Z At 19,000. I Must First Say I Was Wrong About The Right-side Converter Bar,{my Bad}and Second Admit That Daytona-zed Was Right. The Article Did State That A Right Front Compression Rod Was Installed On The Z To Fix The Front-end Alignment Problem. Well This Is My Plan Also And I Hope It Works.{if You Need A Copy Of This Article I Suggest You Go To The Libary And Photocopy It For You're Records And Also Photocopy The Article On Z Tuners} I'll Keep You Updated On My Progress With Nissan. Holla Wildinit.

I believe I have around 5 thousand miles on them now. I am taking it into the second dealer today to have it looked at. No road noise, but the wear is just the same. I would assume since I had the tires replaced in August that I was given the new tread design.

Just a side note, for everyone who uses or lives near santa monica nissan. They refused me service for my Z which is having so many problems. I filed a better business complaint against them. I figure it can only help my case against nissan in the long run, but I figure they got fed up since they weren't making money off of me and all I was doing was bringing it into them for warranty work. In any case, without looking at my car, they told me I had no problems. I didn't know service managers were psychic. Avoid Oscar at all costs there.

Took car in for service and tire roar issue, dealer admitted a problem with the tire/alignment. Has ordered new fronts for the car which will be supplied and fitted FOC, however states he has had these tires on back-order from Nissan since end of July. No indication as to when they may be available - anyone else had this?

Sounds like BS on the non-availability of the tires. They should at least fit you up with equivalent tires. Not sure what to think anymore on the tire roar issue as ive noticed it more now. Is it really a bad suspension design or just sh*tty factory tires. What tire roar i have seems to be dependant on the quality of the road surface. Possibly more pronounced in colder weather. At least your not getting charged for the replacement and the dealer actually admitted there was a problem.

I've been browsing through the car mags the last couple of months and the Z seems to be pretty much left out of any "best" of anything lists. It's just a backdoor way of dissing
the car since the mags are there for the manufacturers, not the customers, and never
come down on anyone. I notice that Consumer's Reports has also been silent on the
tire problem, just downgrading the ride and road noise.

I don't know who put on the first 15K miles on my car but my rotors needed replacement at 28K. First time I ever needed new rotors since disks came out.
To top it off, they twice tried to charge me for resurfacing as well as new parts, once
on the estimate that they "corrected" then after the work was done.

Then to top it off they tried to recommend a 30K "Service Special" for $400.

Had a Datsun 510 a long time ago. Last Nissan anything for me.
